not sure abou the placement of the jack though, what was the idea behind that?

hehehe...i like to carve the neck join away if possible
the jack placement was an error
this body was routed and built at least a decade ago in my younger days and this was a test bed guitar which i tried all types of pickups and switching combos
i was not very careful in the construction of it and from memory i did in a hurry cos i wanted to try some pickups with a whole bunch of dpdts ..heh
if i was to rout it now it would not have a scratchplate and things be 'centred' a little better with the jack closer to the buttLooking for

Ok nice bit of colour again R3R. So the reason you gave to Andrew about the jack has something to do with the fact that it has a scratch plate as well as a rear control cover?

+1 on Andrew's observations ... but it's still a nice looking guitar.
How is the neck? Who was the e-bay supplier?

just to clear this up (cause im not a fan of being disliked over stupid things )
my observations werent taking a swing at your guitar or workmanship in any way,
(im a huge fan of instrument builders)
i just point things out to get people thinking and get their brain ticking with new ideas and better ways to go about things etc etc etc (is it etc or ect? LOL)
but yea, just needed to point that out,
i feel better now lol
i didnt realise the neck was from ebay, i must have skim read it the first time around,
nice ebay score!
did the neck come with the gold frets? or was that something you added?
how do they go?

no problems ..Andrew
no.... the neck came originally like this:
http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/f...1/origneck.jpg
i bought it along with a Tele neck made of the same type of wood
but this one (unlike the Tele neck) had a back bow which i had to remove to make functional...so original frets had to go and i had some gold frets which i wanted to try...very nice..
also had to correct the angle on the neck join area of the neck to keep it parallel with the plane of the body...tht is why the area around there appears 'just sanded' hehLast edited by Big Shed; 4th March 2009 at 04:47 PM. Reason: Deleted picture (excessive size, please keep to max 800 width)

It's etc ... short for etcetera
And again I agree with you. I think the reason we post our builds is to get feedback from our peers and, for me, people whose skills we aspire to. Now of course, it's a buzz to get positive feedback ... but it's equally valuable to get constructive criticism and alternative views ... which is the way I read Andy B's input and R3R appears to have accepted the feedback in that spirit.
But if anybody criticises my work I'll track you down and beat you!!!

hehe...all i have is a workmate and some hand tools/machines
i work out in the pagola where the clothes line is
it is not a beautiful workshop pic i can assure you ...in fact i be embarrased to show such pics in light of wht i seen of pics of workshops of fellows around here...just mere hobbyist woodworker i am
the switch slot was done with a dremel cutting wheel for majority of slot and then i used a flat needle file with a rounded file edge to clean/file the ends/edges of the slot
the perspex required careful drillin too or it would chip ...quite brittle compared to the typical pickguard material found on mass produced guitars...Looking for

lol its not always the tools....
alot of the time the builder has alot to do with it
everytime someone complains about their tools not be good enough, i remember a story my grandfather told me (and tells me more and more as he ages haha)
back in the old days when he was in india, he knew a man called Mr Fernandes,
Mr Fernandes built guitars, he was missing a few fingers, and used a handful of handmade tools,
as my grandfather says "Mr Fernandes made beautiful guitars with what he had"
thats my story, ofcourse my grandfathers version is hours long... but you get the idea
i reckon you should post lots of pics.....
and maybe i will think about posting pics of my shed/workshop
and maybe i will post pics of the 7 string bridge i made today
the dremel is a good idea, if i had a dremel... lol
i might have to look into that
