How's this for angry consumer action
A passenger, just happens to be Dave Carroll, the singer in Sons of Maxwell, has his guitar chucked and broken by United Airlines on the tarmac by its baggage handlers, and they refuse compensation.
So he writes a song about the clumsy dinosaur of an airline, and YouTubes it, making a viral anti-marketing video clip that is being viewed all over the world.
United Airlines capitulated after 2.5 million hits on YouTube.

So funny, so effective, and even though I am not keen on country the chorus keeps going through my head - a case of resonance i think.

Poor bloke, I hate country but what a classic.
Guess what chorus I'll be repeating today might have to cleanse myself and listen to some Floyd to cure myself.

This guy needs to write another song as well...I'll start it....
First Verse
If your dumb enough not to have insurance
on your prized guitar
then when it gets broken
don't be surprised
when you are crying in your car
if you have the money to buy a guitar
thats worth it's weight in gold
then why didn't you have it covered
you shouldn't have to be told
oh tarmac is a very hard surface
for your guitar to hit
now you can spent a month of sundays
picking up the bits
There's a lesson to be learned from this story
insurance you must get
cause when you travel with guitars
it's a risk... you ...sure ....can...... bet...........Last edited by GhostGuitarist; 15th July 2009 at 02:51 PM. Reason: adding to post

Oh how often I have wished to be able to do something like that when confronted by monolithic beaurocracy. The Internet sets you free!Alastair

Thanx for linking that up Shutterbug it was great
@Ghostguitarist
While your rhyme is full of common sense the point is that it shouldn't happen. Insurance is for accidents. When baggage (mis)handlers just throw luggage around without a care in the world whose or what it is, well thatss not exactly an accident is it.
BTW:
"now you can spent a month of sundays"
"...can SPEND a month..." would make more senseLast edited by t0M0; 16th July 2009 at 04:39 PM. Reason: Spelling Correction

OMG...lots of things shouldn't happen in the world but the fact is that if you think baggage handlers or couriers, or Aust.Post etc, don't throw things around, then when you have a guitar broken you'll soon learn......and post a youtube video about it. I bet this guy has insurance on everything from now on....like he should have had in the first place.
Oh and if your looking at correcting people on their spelling mistakes,(which is just a smart#ss way of having a go at someone) that are mostly typo's rather than a lack of education, check your own before you do or you just end up looking a bit silly,.... what is a "ryme" anyway?

Good pick up Peter. Just for the record, I thought the video idea was great, the song was great and it does show the power of the internet. But it does sound like this guy didn't have insurance, if there is a lesson in this, the value of insurance would be the class topic. It would be shocking to have a guitar damaged in this way, but, the airline's response to this guy was probably...."Sorry Sir, to hear about your guitar, if you give us your insurance details we'll be glad to sort this out for you". His response was probably...."ahhh...I don't have any"........"Sorry to hear that Sir, but we do recommend it, in that case, there is nothing we can do for you, have a nice day".
I hope this guy doesn't go sky diving...."It is recommended that you wear a parachute"

What amazes me is the place where the Taylor broke. You couldn't snap a neck like that if you took it out of the case and stuck it in a vice!
Pugwash.
Never criticise Australia Post. One day they might find out where you live.

Well I wasn't trying to be a spelling Nazi just a grammatical tense one
Pugwash
The broken guitar in the vid isn't a taylor, its a Gibson or an Epiphone. I'd say they included it as prop.

The best insurance I ever bought for my bass guitar was a proper flight case. You can drop this off a truck; jump on it and the instrument will still be fine. I've watched while waiting in the plane, baggage handlers literally throw the case up onto a loading conveyor and letting it fall flat onto the belt. Fragile stickers mean nothing to these people.
