Thread: Huon pine music box

After nearly two years, the music box for my wife is finally completed. It was one of those projects that did not want to be built, fought every inch of the way. The brass switch is my invention, with the brass knob turned by Old Croc from a 1/2" brass rod, and an M3 thread tapped in the 6mm shaft. He is a great metalworker.

Box and legs made of Birds eye Huon Pine from Strahan, Tassie, and the lid is Blackheart Sassafrass from Geeveston, in Tassie.

Started with shellac finish, had to give it away after 20 or so coats, could not get a nice smooth coat, ended up sanding it off many times, in the end got my nephew to spray with lacquer. Turned out well, and thanks to Homey and Jim McConnachie for their advice on lacquer

The tune is from Mozart's "The Magic Flute" KV620 - Carillon movement
