    Default Inlay finally done

I know I've been a bit quiet this year.
I finally finished my trapezoid inlay fretboard and custom inlay headplate.
Pictures of timber before and after attached.

This is the first time I've done anything except for dot inlays on a fretboard. I've used headstock stickers previously.

The jobs were particularly frustrating. Mainly with the staining element. I'd sand off the stain each time I sanded the MOP inlay. It took about 5 attempts before I was happy.

I started with a 12inch radiused rosewood board and a 3mm headplate of macassar ebony as per the pix. The MOP Inlay is from MOPSUPPLIES ( I didn't cut it myself). The routing was done using the Dremel router attachment and a 1/16th inch straight bit. I used the Dremel because it has a larger baseplate. I had to set up some rails to rout from because of the radius in the board.

I used double-sided tape when etching the inlays. This was easier for me than spot glue-ing.

I'm sure there is an easier way, but as I said, its my first go.

I've got pictures of progress if anyone is interested in certain stages.

you can see the 'wicking' in pic.3 done with dyed black wood dust and superglue.
All the imperfections are obvious in pic.1

Well it certainly looks the goods to me ... well done, particularly for a first attempt.
