Advice on what to use for a fretboard
Quite a while ago I picked up some Tassi Blackwood from Bob for a thinline build. (Tassi Blackwood Top,Qld maple body, Maple neck , ???? Fretboard + Gold hardware)
I had a rosewood fretboard that I was going to use but in making the neck I reckon I have stuffed up the transition from the nut to the headstock ,(Yep,thats me on the Tele Forum) which looks OK,but I really want this one to look good and right.(Excuse to build another I suppose)
Any suggestion on an alternate timber for the fretboard to go with the Blackwood ???
Thanks
Greg

Hi Bob,
I told you this would take me forever to get a start on this ! I would need a piece about 600 long x 65mm wide and about 8mm thick.
Do you have any pics and cost + cheapest postage .PM me if you like
Thanks

A couple of other timbers to consider, Cooktown Ironwood, Ebony, Mulga, Solomons Ebony (rebranded as Pacific Blackwood), Jarrah, Purple Gidgee, etc. It depends on your aesthetic requirements. Its better if it is quarter sawn.
And I dont doubt the quality of Bob's timber BTW, just adding alternatives."We must never become callous. When we experience the conflicts ever more deeply we are living in truth. The quiet conscience is an invention of the devil." - Albert Schweizer

Advice on what to use as a fretboard
Hi Greg,
I will send you photos by the weekend.
As for how long it is taking you on your build what does it matter how long it takes as you will get it done one day.
I started a build over a year ago building a Weissenborn and so far I have only got as far as resawing the back & sides plus the soundboard as life has just been so busy to get any further, but thats Ok as I will get there one day.
Cheers, Bob.

Advice on what to use for a fretboard
Greg, photos attached do not show full figured as I had to use a flash, but full of fiddleback Eucalyptus from the central highlands of Tasmania very dense excellent for fretboard. 70 mm wide let me know if it is of interest and I will resaw a piece for you. Cheers Bob.
