I have always wondered if Simon watched Hey Hey it Saturday...hrrrumphhh--RED SIMONDS-- cough cough

I want to see someone play a nail.

No really, hammer a big one in a wall and use a violin bow on it... eeeerie
    Cheers!

    Its normally a rip saw,

Hey Mongrel, what about a series of nails driven in a different depths into a soundbox?

I think there was a post somewhere on here about just that. There are an amazing number of things that can be excited with a violin bow (I'm not one of them) I always think of Jimmy Page bowing (and beating) his Les Paul.

Its all about oscillation, same as tapping tone wood, and the ability to let something oscilate while still in contact with the bow.

I have seen a device made with brass reeds and bamboo that you bowed and it made this almighty freaky sound, Kyoto mixed with that fellas saw playing...
    Cheers!

well not exactly a new idea
the first time i seen this was when i was a kid in the mid 50's. - a travelling show was in town and my old man took me along - i remember sitting there eating my peters ice cream cup watching this dude play god save the queen on a panel saw - i remember because the new queen was coming to our town soon, so it really stuck in my mind

the old man told me he'd seen it when he was a kid at vaudeville shows
