    Default King Billy at AFT

    Hi all,

I was at Australian Furniture Timbers in Plummer Street Port Melbourne this AM. They pointed out some King Billy, which looked pretty good. Nice even tight grain, not a lot of flaw.
Its about 200mmx25mmx somewhere between 1 and 1.5 metres. It's dressed and they have about 20 boards. Sorry, I didn't get a price, but if you call (03) 9646 2376, I'm sure they'll tell you.

    Hope this is useful,

    Rob

I really really hate visiting that place. I always end up buying way too much timber

Don't feel alone Steve. I went down to get some American beech and ended up with 1.5m of Red Cedar and 2 metres of Macassar Ebony:eek:  as well. Just walking around the yard convinces you that you need at least one cube of everything they've got.

    Hi Marpleman,

I assume you mean the Ebony. I bought 1.9metresx35x150, about half of which is usable at 35mm depth. The rest is quite variable. I paid $103.62. My requirements were quite specific, so I bought what I thought was best. They actually have a reasonable amount in a locked shed with 0.5m blocks of approx60x60 to longer lengths (2-3 metres of 16,25,32mm) and some "mini" slabs of about 50mm, not sure of length. They quite openly admit that its the dogends of their last shipment. The Beech was about $30.00 for 2.2x25x150. The Cedar $15/0.9 metre, with good figure.

    Regards,

    Rob

    Hi Gratay,

You'd really need to see it, or talk to them. They are very helpful
I'm assuming you're talking about the ebony and I think its slab sawn. Remember its Macassar Ebony, so has streaks of yellow/brown through it. A lot of the other timbers may be available in cross cut. Have alook at their website http://www.afttimbers.com.

    Regards,

    Rob
