tht is the MAIN experiment
NO TRUSS ROD for an electric guitar neck
hypothesis: some woods can be used (remain dimensionally stable and straight) to construct an electric guitar neck of scale length 25.5" (or shorter) without using the re-inforcement and flexibility of a truss rod under the conditions of
1) strings gauge 10's tuned up to standard tuning/pitch
2) i play it regularly
some tentative conclusions might be reached after a year (it has survived through all the seasons) by measuring the deviation from the straight of the neck
the purpose of this experiment which has been borne out by practical usage thus far has been to 'improve the tone of the instrument'
there IS a significant effect on 'tone' of instrument tht is due to the truss rod itself (much much more significant than finish, type of wood, body weight etc etc...but not as significant as changing pickups of varying power and picking styles)
one can hear it for oneself by building a neck without a truss rod ...even if one does not have super premium woods
you just prob need to carve a fuller neck profile than usual out of the usual woods and use light strings like 9's or even 8's or tune down to Eb (e flat)
i am confident that you will be able to replicate wht i have found...though whether yer neck will stand the test of time is subject to experiment ...like this one
P.S. in case anyone is lost on my humour...i did not get this piece from bunningsLooking for
