Also, may I suggest a look at:

Warmoth Custom Guitar Parts - Customer Gallery

Warmoth make custom guitars of all kinds, including exotic timber laminate tops.

You can see what they've already done for customers and what is possible with the LP guitar.

Edit: Looking at that gallery, the double cutaway LP looks remarkably like a PRS body!

I believe the brierleys are the favoutrite at the moment, they are hand wound and heaps cheaper as well. MICK is also great to deal with.

I think you mean the PRS looks like a double cut les paul, the double cuts were made long before PRS were.

Not judging, just asking why P90's for a slide guitar? I love P90's myself but given they are a single coil and open to feed back issues, why them instead of Humbuckers? Cheers Paul.

Well there are a lot of guys playing slide with single coils including strats and p90 equiped guits as well as many using humbuckers.
I personally like the clarity and bite of a p90 over the warmth of a humbucker, but it is a matter of preference.
They are not really prone to feedback, just subject to noise from fluoros etc in my experience. same as a strat.

Fair enough, I have one of my custom guitars (Strat like) that we use for slide here with 3 Fender single coils. All the P90's I have used can't handle the sort of gain a humbucker can without feedback, having said that my favourite guitar has Bare Knuckle P90's in it, Nantucket in the neck, supermassive in the bridge. Cheers Paul.

Why would I want to look at Warmoth.? Cheap crap assembled in China I have spoke many years ago on the phone with the owner who wanted to buy timber from me so why would I want to look there for my timber don't you read the threads.?
I want to use my own timber and have a 100% Australia guitar including the pick ups.
The only thing not Australian is the luthier.

Also a deep set neck could be used (Perry Ormsby uses this on some builds I have seen) then you will have more gluing surface. I will try and find a link, found it: http://www.ormsbyguitars.com/galleri...images/121.jpg

You could also do a neck thru and then glue the top and back caps on. Or do a neck thru with the blackwood top and use the musk or BH sass as the body wings.
A blackwood and flame eucalypt neck looks awesome specially neck thru.

Now this is an idea worth looking at' if I want to look at cutting down on the weight lots of good idea forum members are coming up with and they are all very much appreciated I will think about them all. This coming Thursday I will be at the work shop resawing so I will resaw the burl blackwood also dress and resaw the blackhearted sassafras and book match to see what it looks like and see if it will go with the blackwood as I want this on the front. I will also speak with the luthier this week' as for pick ups I will be talking with Mike Brierley as I will be using his pick ups for sure' Stu at bluestone guitars raves about them and it seems a few members here do also.

I am building 2 Tele's at the moment one with a Bare Knuckle Blackguard 55 staggered set, the other Fender TexMex. I will be using a set of those Brierleys on my next build, just watched Brett Kingmans youtube clip on them, stunning original Tele sound, thankyou for bringing them to my attention, I have to build a Jazzmaster style for my son very soon, what are his P90's like? Cheers Paul.

    Its Mick not Mike.
Speaking of Blueston have a look at this one. BRAD’S ‘BLADE‘ NECK THROUGH CARVE TOP

You could do the same as that with a musk cap on the back or replace the mahogany with BH sass. He makes very nice guitars, I reckon the nicest looks wise in Aus from what I have seen online

As for Stu of bluestone guitars I would say he is one of Australia's top builders.

Warmoth build their own necks and bodies in their USA factory - they are not outsourced from china. You might be getting confused with Eden.

well I have decided to go with Jeff suggestion that is 45mm book matched blackhearted sassafras body blank so I will go through my stock within the next 7 days to find a piece 100mm thickness fully quarter sawn so once resawn and sanded will give me 45mm finished thickness. And have the burl type blackwood 16mm cap on top to allow the luthier to carve.
As for the neck I might look at Luxumburg idea neck through highly figured fiddleback blackwood and fiddleback mountain ash neck laminated.
I reckon this combination will work well.
I will keep every one up to date with the progress.

    Bob,

that sounds like a great idea it should look awesome

If you havnt already cut the blackwood burl I would think about cutting it thicker and doing more of a carve than a lespaul, the more carve the better I reckon it looks.

*just realised that 16mm is still plenty, as a lespaul has around 10mm carve you still have more to go.

I helped cut up some mountain ash and blackwood not that long ago for a neck of a neck thru bass. It was stunning when finished. The centre of the neck was mountain ash, then two thin strips of rock maple than figured blackwood.

Hi Rohan, I could have the burl blackwood cap a little thicker as the billet is 85mm thickness, I would make the top 20mm.
As for neck you helped cut what was the finished thickness of the neck.?
    Cheers Bob
