Little progress today, Lil' mongrel was away, again! I planed the fingerboard, squared it scored the fret positions. Squared up the headstock. Ended up with about 12 deg which is pretty good.
It really is quite amazing just how flat you can get a bit of wood with a hand plane. Without really trying I shot to about 0.1 mm before sanding, which aint too bad really.
Tomorrow, after work (there is nothing makes you feel quite so old as when your kid has a job) we will have a couple of hours to spend on the body, so we can make some serious dust then.
I am going out to sharpen my plane, again!
Keep it real,
Jason.Cheers!Mongrel

Yeah, well. I didn't do any homework when I was at school, so I guess I'm trying to make up for it now???
got to scrub plane the mahogany down by about 16mm. I can't see her doing it too soon, though I wouldn't say no if she chose toCheers!Mongrel

I'm starting to wonder when Lil' mongrel will actually post.
Has she actually registered up yet?
I need the story from two perspectives with this build

I'll get her to post tomorrow night, no doubt in pink or purple text.
We'll be cutting the body and routing cavities tomorrow, changing a chunk of lumber into a hopefully guitar shape.
I reckon by the end of this build I'll be able to hit them up for a thicknesser/jointer for fathers dayCheers!Mongrel

hey people's!!!!!!
dad and i did the timber cutting today, I USED A BANDSAW!!!!
it was very nerve racking, but heaps of fun.
when we got this all cut out, all fingers and toes etc, we planed (or dad did it) and we had to take it back neary a centimetre to make it 2 inches.
after that, we screwed the template to the timber, and we routed the wood until it was right. dad hit a notch, and was cranky!! we used two router bits to level the templates. gluing it made me loose it a lil bit, it slipped and slid but after a few minutes, but it's sitting in the shed covered in clamps. just between u and me... dad is veeeerrrrryyyyy messy with his plane!!! ooppps!!!! dad can see this!!!!!!

Hey team,
That build is coming on a treat!! Personally I think a faux binding, why cover up a beautiful piece of timber?
IMO
Keep it up!Deano

i assume the front will be tinted? id say it depends on what colour the front is going to be, but in most cases i'd say the faux binding.

Good to see your Dad letting you have a go Lil Mongrel, black binding will help the guitar stand out against pink when you are on stage,
