Good stuff Lil_Mongrel and Mongrel. Great to see the kids in the shed making guitars and enjoying it too. Definately better to go with the safer finish on this one.

Neck is one piece scarf jointed rock maple. Indian rosewood fingerboard with some precut trapeziod MOP inlays, bone nut. 24 3/4 scale 22 fret, Klusson classic tuners (the good ones) and headstock veneer out of left over body cap.

I bought a new triton 1400 watt router to replace my trusty ryobi which passed away this week. The little 1000 watter has built a kitchen and several other large projects and I had it over 8 years. The lower bearing siezed and she smoked up a treat, screamed like a stuck pig, luckily I got it switched off quickly and it stopped with the sound a 44 gallon drum with a few rocks in it makes when you roll it down a hill. Before I put it down I unplugged it and cut off the cord so I wouldn't be tempted to try and "fix it".
The triton is sweet, well made and especially well thought out. It is designed to be put into a table and is smooth and quiet (for a router)
It is what I consider a Luthier Friendly Tool.

Lil' Mongrel just walked out the door to go to school, grumbling and mumbling (she has been off for three weeks!) and I am off to shoe horses.
    Ciao!

    Cheers!

Not much achieved this week, work and school, the destroyers of luthiery time!

we are preparing the neck now, truss rod slot cut, neck rough cut. There is some tassie oak from bunnings I have resawn down to 1.5 mm for some subtle bindings. The headstock veneer needs to be thinned a bit more before it is attached and the fretboard is only marked out and the inlay is sitting on top.
We are hoping to be at home together sometime this week to get on with it.

Thought I'd better post before we ended up on the 2nd page before were finished!

    Cheers

    tip
b4 you mount the triton in your table take out the spring or you'll stuff the worm gear like i did on mine - it should only be in for use in the upright position -

of course i didnt read the manual did i

Yup, I read the manual on the 'net before I bought it as part of the choosing process.
VERY unusual for me to RTFM first!

What angle did you cut the Scarf joint on the neck/headstock join?

built the trussrod and slotted the fretboard.
We managed about an hour this afternoon. There is plenty of "you do it this way cause..." in our build, she has to learn about thread cutters and truss rods and sawing style, pull stroke and push stroke saws etc.
I am hoping that we can get the fretboard shaped and the inlays inlayed (?) in the next couple of days.

    hi guys!!!
I got out of doing homework today, and mongrel and i did some work on the fret board.
we had the cheapest trip to gasweld buying a die...
he got the truss rod done and put it in the neck. i got to watch and take photos
he then showed me how to use a fretting saw, again, taking pics.

the teachers think its pretty cool that im doing something like this for this assignment.

    gotta do some homework now

    Next!!!
We have started on the neck now.

    Our trussrod

    Slotted fretboard

    Started the inlay

You can see the three stages of the inlay on the last pic, remember this is a learning experience, so things are done a little topsy turvy sometimes for the sake of demonstration.

Ok, got quite a bit done today. Lil' mongrel got to do a bit of watching as I did the inlay, its a bit tricky...

    Cut our rear heel...

Starting to look like a guitar...

Hoping to get the fretboard radiused and glued on and the neck roughly profiled.

Lil' Mongrel will be along soon (when American Idol is over)

daddy, just cause you like david cook!!

i got out of homework AGAIN and dad carved the heel carve, and i sanded it.
we also did the fretboard and glued the fret markers, and dad got it the right shape, length etc.

i even did some of it at school project wise and i had a pic of dads guitar "eyes'' and i even got a few bids on it....
but when they realised it didnt have its parts... well...
i didnt get my 500 bucks... damn!!
