good looking progress. nice looking fretwire bending thing. i've been putting my fretwire all rolled up in a milk crate and storing it there to give it a nice curve. works fine, but i'd still like to make one like that.

Its funny, I bent 2 frets by the plier/swearing method, and got the willies with that and built the jigger thingy. I cut 22 more frets, then dropped them all, including the two I'd done before. At the end I had 2 left over that just seemed a little off and wouldn't seat properly, and they were the hand bent ones, of course.
It is a set of shower screen rollers, a piece of breadboard cut with a hole cutter. I threaded it onto a bolt and chucked it in my drill press. I used a gents saw to cut a slightly oversized slot (probably 0.7mm) while it spun on the press. Couple of mudflap washers and a lock nut.
Too easy.Cheers!Mongrel

And here I go again on my own, dum dum, goin' down the only road I've ever known...
Sorry, Whitesnake flashback there...
Ok next instalment
Today we sanded, grain filled, started shaping the neck and sprayed the seal coat on the faux binding and made a bold start on the staining.
Cut fretboard to size
Cutting kerfs ready to chisel the neck down to size
Timbermate grain filled
and the stain...
Yummy figured tassie oak

guitar is looking great!!!!
i spent the first bit sanding it, then filling the grain, while dad did all the 'fun' stuff with the neck. we stained the head of it, it looks really good. the other day when dad was testing a purple dye (which didnt work DAMN) he ended up using my snotty hanky to test it,,,, it's purple now!! hehe
we then did the binding, we covered it in masking tape and paper, i did the sides with a blade to get them all even.
it was a very fun 4 hours even though i was a bit sick, and tired (had a sleep over ffriday night, had to get up for work at 6.45 saturday morning to get to work and been on my feet since!)
but it was really worth it!

Black_Labb:
more or less form the 16th fret to the 22nd
With her first build, its easier to hide bo-bo's with this type.
Cheers!Mongrel

I hope there isn't a pic limit per thread...
Anyhow
Staining and neck profiling today.
Lookin' OK in mockup
I like to use the profiler to check the neck shape as we go.
Introduced Lil Mongrel to Mr. Spokeshave today, they had a lot of fun making a big square piece of wood into a little round piece.
Couple of coats of shellac on the body to seal the little fingerprints out.
I didn't get the neck glued on as of yet. I want to get the neck glued before I put the bridge on to make sure it is properly aligned.
Ciao Jason.Cheers!Mongrel

Your day will come grasshopper

Better than being green I suppose?

Mr Spokeshave can be addictive by nature, he likes to take edges off things and reduce big square wood to little round wood.

Just testing how dry it was Lil Mongrel?
go go mongrelers, its looking like a tiger.

tassie tiger ?!! he he. Looking good................although
your contour gauge had me lose my train of thought for a second, then
I realised the part I shoulda been focusing on was the bottom contours.
I'm a bad man.
