    Thanks Mark! Thats great!
How wide would you say the routes are?
I am a little (OK a LOT) nervous about routing 6 parrallel channels in a guitar top though... I think I'll make up a jig and go from there...

    Ok todays progress pics

    Mostly neck work today:

You can see the faceting for the neck fron the spoke shave.

Cleaning up the blend from the headstock to the neck.

Lookin' more like a neck now...

Nice contrasts in the colours, I think.
We have glued the neck in too.

Tomorrow should be D-Day for the bridge and its associated parts!

    Cant wait!

Lil' mongrel did 99% of the neck today, which was great really. The only thing I didn't let her loose with was my razor sharp violin makers knife which I used to shape the heel.
    Cheers!

Mongrel I reckon they have used a 3/16 dome end bit ,the travel of the router would be 1" . depth about 3/16....1/4 .
    She's looking pretty good
    cheers Mark

tomorrow, ill probably be doing the final sanding and filling any little holes in as i go. dad's probably going to find out where the bridge will go. when i finish all the fun bits of it, ill have to do all the written work at school...
aint that gunna be fun!! lol

    Oh boy, getting there now...

Drilled the ferrule and bridge post holes.

    Routed the bridge hole.

I got a little bit more than 10 deg string break without rebating the string ferrules like a godin. Because the strings will be '10's, the angle should be OK.

Well, aside from a bit more scraping and some fine sanding we're up for some coats of sanding sealer, some sanding and then topsies.

Electronics and setup through the school holidays.
    Cheers!

    Naww, not yet!
The gods of school and work have conspired against us.
I want lil' to be able to put down quite a few of the base coats of finish herself, it is her build after all, but that would mean that we would have to be home and not working at some point at the same time. I am hoping that we can make the nut and mask off the body one day after school then, weather permitting, knock over a few coats of sanding sealer over the weekend. Hopefully then I can do a few coats during the day and she can do one or two after school.

The best laid plans of mice and men...
    Cheers!

The trials and tribulations of Luthery!

At the mo were TRYING to get ready to spray the guitar, but...

My shed is about as well insulated as a tea bag and its highest ambient temperature for the last fortnight has been about 17 deg C, not ideal spraying conditions at all!
Heating it is pretty well out of the question, its got more holes than the Budget and I guess my wife would have something to say if I sprayed it inside the house
My thoughts are straying towards making a booth out of ply and heating it with bulbs and a dimmer switch.
Any of you that have used the Stewmac Waterbased sanding sealer and top coat might be able to help me with its gel-ing threshold, could I keep everything warm but still spray it in the cold environment?

Any thoughts, tips or sympathy would be greatly appreciated
    Cheers!

OK, I've got some portable halogens and an oil/fin heater, I'll warm everything up, spray and get the local ambient temp up to about 22deg for an hour or so, turn off the halogens, leave the heater on for the next hour or so, see how that goes.
Repeat 20 times and we should be sweet
    Cheers!

    Ok, here we go...

My new little spray rig, gravity feed, 100ml cup. nozel 0.7 - 1.5 mm. Very nice find at bunno's. The good thing is that I only need 30-40ml per spray for the guitar, and there is liitle to no waste:

    And some spraing...

And I need a shave and a haircut, apparently...

3 coats down... 21 to go
    Cheers!
