Neck design considerations
Hiya, I've been playing around with possible designs for the guitar + Bass I want to create, and the design that most appeals to me, out of maybe 50 I have scribbled, has the left horn, where the strap attaches, actually connected to the neck. I have attached a piccy so you can get a feel for what I am inanely waffling on about. My question is whether such a construction would stuff up the ability of the truss rod to correct string tension , or if it wouldn't likely matter. The right side of the neck would still be curved to allow finger placement/grip, but the left side, where it matches with the 'horn' would be flat and bonded where they meet.
Would it, perhaps, be better to have a 5mm gap between the neck on the left and the horn? I don't want to create an instrument that looks interesting, but is ultimately useless as an actual tool.

Cheers, folks

I'll preface this by saying "Ive never made a bass". I reckon it would look very cool if the neck was a through neck. It shouldnt affect the truss rod as it acts primarily on the back of the fretboard anyway. Im not sure the f hole and Maltese cross belong on the same instrument...

Heh, the adornments were just idle scribblings. I'm probably not going for an F hole, as that was just a thought linked to how much hollowing I was going to have to do to reduce the mass of the Tuart. The Maltese Cross is a likely candidate for consideration, though
Regarding the neck, I was considering a through neck, although it would have a 8-12 mm bookmatched fiddleback Tuart front.

i doubt it would matter w.r.t. truss rod and the way body is connected to neck as you have hand drawn
if anything it might add even more rigidity(so tht truss rod might not even be needed ) to the instrument which may or may not be to your tasteLooking for
1. fiddleback mulga - 1" thick, 3"wide, 26" long
PM if you have for sale!

I'm almost speechless that there is another build with an Amalfi Cross on the left horn. Who is building it?
Thanks very much for the pics, Andrew B, that sort of proves the concept to my satisfaction, and thanks folks for your thoughts
