Default Nick's 80's inspired DC Hybrid - Queensland Maple build

    Hi,

Here is another I have been working on. Nick wanted an 80's themed/inspired axe. An interesting challenge is just what the doctor ordered for me (guitar doctor)

    Specs:
Body - 1 piece figured Queensland maple with ebony binding and pearl purfling
Neck - 3 piece laminated Queensland Maple
Fretboard - ebony with pearl custom inlay
    Bridge - shaller stop tail

More spec details will be provided as the build unfolds.

    Pictures of preping the blanks

    Cheers

    Default Design Stage

    Hi,

I showed Nick a concept design I had been working on and he showed alot of interest, so much so he wanted it to be the first of the design.

The inlay he requested was a vine inlay, however the vine wasn't 80's enough, so we decided on a rose thorn tattoo. Is there anything more 80's than a rose thorn tattoo.... probably not. Still has that vine look but more 80's

The CAD. No chambering on this one. 1 piece body so just the control cavity

    Cheers,

    Peter

Looks like another winner Peter. Im also jealous of your cad skills!

If you dont mind me asking, where do you source your timber?
Does it all come from Bob or do you have another supplier?

Hi Floody, As Peter is not online at the moment I will answer this question.
This build is Queensland maple, I only supply Tasmanian species.
    Cheers, Bob

    Hi floody,

I get my timber from a variety of sources as most suppliers specialize in a select range of species. This timber I selected myself from the maple man at the working with wood show in Sydney. Always best to select yourself when possible. The neck is quarter sawn

    Cheers

    Commencing the inlay

The shell blanks to be cut out

Part way there. RSI starting to set in

Scribing the inlay. I am doing this in two stages due to the volume

inlay leveled and radiused ready for fine sanding and engraving
