    Default %$@#*^~ nuts

So what's this thread about anyways - Guitar nuts

I'm in a 8 string octave bass design phase and can't find any pre slotted nuts. Perhaps I should not be to concerned about it and just slot my own. But up until now, I've not had to do that.

Before I give into the man, break down and mess up my own nut. I'm putting out one last call. Does anyone know where I can find a pre slotted 8 sting (octave) bass nut, not a mandolin nut, a bass nut.

    Thanks

I would imagine that 8 stringers are a bit rare for anyone to make many parts for, I've never seen pre fab nuts for them before. Never really seen many 8 string basses in the flesh before either - two alembics in a boutique store is is all. Looks like you might be stuck with making your own

Mandolin nuts are practically the same though, right?

Edit: Just stumbled upon some Warwick nuts for 8 string, not cheap though. Here's the link

Thanks man that the first one I've seen However it's a little small @ 38.5 mm. I'm needing at least 1 13/16 or 46.0375 mm width. I couldn't imagine my big hands trying to play something with 8 strings that close together.

I would find that a bit snug for a 4 string personally. At least there's an upside to making your own nut - you can fit a more individually suited size to it. Happy filing

I highly doubt you will find one anywhere. I usually find it best to always make the nut yourself. It always works better that way

I think you might have to slot your own to get the spacing you want.
