I must be nuts....
Hi guys, I just scored an 1870's portable pedal organ, all in pieces. Needs a refurb. Its in a blokes garage, he was going to cut it up as it was cluttering the place. $80. Will post some pikkies when I get it. A little bit of a challenge..... I think I need some therapy

The photos
Hi everyone,
Here are the photos, comments welcome, as anyone attempted this type of thing? Seems to me to be a lot of French Polishing and a fair amount of assembly. I suspect the hardest part would be finding plans and parts although the reeds appear to be OK. This was my main concern.
The other problem is what to do with it once complete? I can get it and hold onto it if someone is brave enough....... seems such a waste to let it go....Last edited by Sebastiaan56; 22nd September 2007 at 07:54 AM. Reason: typo

yes i restored one years ago which consisted mainly of repair the bellows canvas and sealing the rest of the air pumping mechanism with wax and making new pump straps out of nylon strapping, some oil polishing and it came up fine.
Thats one looks like a beauty and great score for 80 bucks.
The main thing is the pumping mechanism to get the air working well and then dealing with any breakages internally, then the pitch pipes, reeds, keys, tone stoppers and other functional bits and peices..
good luck and let us know how it goes mate..

I call that a score too! It may not be worth a cracker, but I'd have it in a flash!
I'm REALLY looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
cheers,
