    Figured U.S maple will always be streets ahead of figured Blackwood when you're talking about ease of filling and sealing .
    It is a fact that figured timbers are more compacted than non-figured,
    but that doesn't stop figured ,open-pored timbers from wanting to suck in
    liquid with more intencity than your average wet-dry vac.

    It all depends on the species.

    Regardless, I find other methods than sanding sealer to do the job.
    Experiment and find the path which yields the best results for you, I say.

    yeah i gotta say figured nth american maple is all i have worked with and it takes finish real easy...

    boy i wouldnt want to hide any of that grain with burst its a nice lookin body

    Unfortunately or otherwise - at least financially - I'm commited to the sunburst cause I've already purchased all the materials. Also I've already got a classic-finished tele (see attached pic: a Korean Samick copy).

    The neck I'm using is a Japanese made tele vintage rosewood fretboarded one.
