Thread: Plans for Rosewood Guitar Stand

How heavy are the guitars, and will it be for gigging or using in the house? I flat out would not trust one of my solid body basses to that unless the arms that hold the weight were metal and pretty solidly attached. I would be worried that wood would flex or break. Particularly at a gig, because you're not always as careful as you should be. If you wanted it to be all wood, I would change the design a bit - maybe have some supports or even a panel between the feet and the guitar supports for some extra strength. I have to say I like the idea though - much better looking than the run of the mill stands.

For around the house. I wouldn't take a handmade rosewood guitar stand to a gig, but that's just me.

Leave out the radiata. All the other timbers look fine together. If you have a dog, it might chase the radiata if you throw it. Mine won't (Tasmanian dogs), but some will.

If your joinery is sound, the stand will be sound. I look forward to seeing it, I hate these cheap aluminium ones I have.

I'm usually quite a lot of radiata at the moment... been building sleds hotglued to other wood to go through the thicknesser.

This may be somewhat crude, and I still have some work to do before it's finished but here goes anyway. My answer for a collapsible A-Frame floor stand for my 5 string banjo. Design and execution was limited due to my lack of experience, tools or workshop. e.g. I had to cut slots for the opening restrictor arm as I don't have access to a router.

Basic barrell hinge at top. Provided good non slip padding is used the toes at the bottom of the stand doesn't need to kick up due to banjos weight and low centre of gravity.
