The hardest part in making a classical is getting it to sound loud enough...not as much energy coming from nylon strings as with steel.[/quote]
I've only built one classical, about 7 years ago, using Cumpiano's book. When I was buying the timber (99% came from Gilets), Darryl, from Gilets told me that using Mahogany kerfed lining's helped make a louder instrument. I did as he suggested, being a newb at the time, and hey presto, I got a loud instrument.
Now I'm not suggesting this is the only factor.... but worth noting IMHO
