what a bi@tch!!! ok i pulled off all the masking tape and paper to reveal what i think looks awesome.. black paint shielded cavities with creamy yellow raw wood.. omg thats a good look too.. just the raw wood with matt finish and black hardware.. anyway .. some of the shielding paint leaked under the tape or i didnt tape properly.. so i thought no probs i can just sand it all flat.. big mistake . .the black just smudged everywhere .. i was like NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO so then i thought stop and use the acetone to clean it up which helped but as soon as it grabbed some fresh black paint shielding it streaked ... nooooooooo again .. so i cleaned up as best i could and left it alone.. i did give it more than 24hrs drying time between each of the 3 coats. i was using stew macs shielding paint .. I mite add it looks a million times better in this state .. than it did before

ok im beginning to think i shoulda dont the shield paint bit after the entire body was finished?? .. oh well

yo yo yo, hello everyone again *does hi5 gestures as he runs around the room*...

Yes its been a while. I thought id keep my reply in the original thread so i dont spread it everywhere and in case noone remembered what the hell i was going on about.

So, yeah been a while. I havent done anything to my last 2 projects as ive been busy with moving around, being sick, being sick of work! and really the whole playing and refinishing guitars put on the backburner (is that the term?).

It never left my mind. Countless train trips to work including reading my "Polishers Handbook" on shellac and all the Ubeaut products. Literally like i was doing an exam and studying!!.. making notes etc..i bought all the products like sept last year from carba-tech here in syd. Polishes, shellac (hardened i think its called, liquid), water dyes, etc.. etc.. everything i needed to get started. Until only last week i was still torn between stain and clear finish OR solid colour ORR the nagel graphic which after speaking to you guys made it sound sooooo easy to do with just practice and stencils etc.. Ive gone back and forth between what i want.. the easy answer is .. i dont have enough bodies to play with (that sounds bad hehe). I have the gunslinger and the ibanez. here is my decision and please dont think that all the info you gave me was a waste of time cause i learnt heaps and im intending on replicating a body or perhaps getting one off ebay and doing the different ideas that have been discussed in this thread... soo ok .. here we go:

    1. gunslinger body .. altho has some REALLLY nice grain work happening, due to the greenish wood stains as mentioned.. i dunno if i want to go for that color stain and shellac finish anymore. Itd be different if it was a maple top or something but it isnt. i REALLY want that girl graphic on that body. so i think im gunna aim for that now.. and will keep u updated.
    2. ibanez body. Again was going to stain it blue and seal it with shellac for that piano finish but then i looked at it again and thought its not the best of wood and dont think it will come up nice.. so instead.. my neighbor who is a spraypainter/panelbeater just did his ford falcon in that really nice deep blue. He has some paint left and said he'd be happy to paint the guitar and clear coat it and do all the prep work. He mentioned it would be baked on (oven at about 50deg). He said he does wood in there for ppl all the time.. i just hope the glue on the guitar body holds up.

Thats my story for now. I will keep you posted with any updates etc..

    everyone enjoy your day!
    G

Sorry Andrew i forgot to answer your question. Yeah it is an RG770 which i got off ebay a long time ago and the previous owner tried to repaint it, poooorlly and i mean poooorlly. I didnt know this at the time and i paid top dollar for it, was disappointed when it arrived and what i saw for the money! (this was my only ebay guitar that was a mistake to bid on). Its definately a 770. From a distance it looked hot, was a metallica pink. Upclose looked like *shudder*. So i stripped it completely.. had nothing to lose it was very sore looking. But ive decided to replicate the RG570 Jewel Blue color. I dont have a blue guitar, so thought this be a good chance!.
