Absolutely agree'd.
It's looking really good already etherial... you have got me very keen to try some blackwood too. I have three weeks off work over Christmas, so with any luck I'll get AFT and grab myself some lumber, and see if I can't turn it into a guitar or two (or firewood and toothpicks).

Sweet as... Is the body chambered at all? Have you got a neck happening yet?
Nice choice with the Duncans for pickups.

Hi Peter,
Thanks for your encouraging words. The body isn't chambered. I was a bit mindful of the weight given the overeall thickness however the entire guitar (body and neck) currently weigh just under 3kg....I think this will be a perfect weight, not too light and not too heavy....amazing how much weight disappears when you finish the carve and all the routing . Of course, I have a bit to add back on with hardware and pups etc...
I am really keen on trying the Duncans which have a great reputation....have never used them before so fingers crossed. Here are a couple more pics with the neck......the neck is a 3 piece laminate of Blackwood and Qld Maple in the centre to match the body and top/1mm white maple veneer....headplate is also Qld Maple.....what you see is raw timber, 120 grit sanded....heaps more to go but can't wait to get the first sealer coat on and spin out over the figure which I reckon will be pretty nice. Thanks again for the interest.

i found the 59's to be nice
the neck especially sweet
next time i will use a jb or pearly gates bridge with the 59 neck
apparently the jazz neck is pretty nice
the jazz neck and jb bridge is a very popular combo
the guitar looks sweet - well done so farray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

Lookin' gooood!.
Love the headstock, and the veneer down the neck.
It will be interesting to see how a full blackwood body responds tonally.
That guitar is going to sound great. Good choice of timber.

Cheers Deano. This is my favourite SOUNDING combination of timbers so far.....warmth and mids from the Blackwood and bright top end from the QLD Maple....I reckon it's the aussie equivalent to mahogany body and maple top. I have also built guitars out of JUST Blackwood....body and neck......very well balanced but might lack a bit of the character that a different top can add....jury still out on that one for mine .
Stu (OzTradie) and I need to do some of our highly scientific testing (look the other way and pick which guitar it is hehehehehe ).

very nice looking instrument. i have some sd's on my first build, a invader bridge and the alnico 2 in the neck. im quite over the invader, but im not into such a overdriven sound as i was at the time. the mid position is nice, just find the invder a bit too harsh. because the invader has alot more resistance it doesnt change the mid position tone much, just adds a hint of a bite whick is nice. im thinking of selling the invader, or rewinding it and putting an alnico magnet in, but i may just leave it and build new guitars instead.

Exactly !!!!! why have 1 when you can make a 1000 (good ones)
BLACK LABB It's interesting you mention the invaders not being particularly great.
I've heard that from quite a few people.
I'm still a fan of the ol' '59's and JB's.
Are we testing again tomorrow night, Ethereal ? he he he
cheers, Stu
