Hahahaha....or "The Grand Conjurer".....hope it sounds half as good as that sound, I'll be laughing!!! I actually got hold of some TAB for "Baying of The Hounds" a couple of weeks ago, fired up the all Blackwood "Conjurer", set the MESA to a nice Burn Gain with contour, set the tuning to DADFAE and WOW!!!!.....for a moment there I though I was Mikael .......or should I say WISHED
What shape are you thinking of for your Blackwood/QLD Maple build?

Yeah. They know how to get a damn good sound out of those Laneys. Incredable live and studio. I have never heard a band pull off the clean-dirty-clean sound so well. Their sound guy certainly earns his keep.
I about gave up trying to work out their songs after Blackwater Park. I searched eBay for the drugs they all used grow ten fingers on each hand, but to no avail
Hehe, this one... I have *slightly* modified the headstock to curve in a little more at the sides now though.

Cool design I like this V shape a lot, especially the headstock. So Blackwood Body, QLD Maple top, QM headstock veneer, 3 piece Blackwood/Vic Ash neck?....would look a million bucks.......what about fret board? Traditional or oz timber in that regard?
Yup, long fingers those Opeth dudes for sure.....some riffs are surprisingly and pleasantly simple though.....apparently their live sound is ALL driven by a BOSS GT6 into whatever stacks they can arrange at the venue.....go figure? Says a lot for the PRS guitars they are playing though. I wouldn't mind his vocals effects pedal

Thanks for the comments. I like the headstock too. I have loads of headstock designs sketched up (they fill in time really well when on the train for 3 hours a day). This is my favourite one so far though.
As for the guitar. I wasn't planning putting a top on it. I was thinking something more like this, but probably with Vic Ash rather than maple.

I'd be proud as punch to own one of those, Hammered.
Still liking that headstock design and it'd be bloody easy to do too.
Ooh, another neck thru..........can't wait .
Top cap or not, it still appeals.
What're YOU gonna name it, Demon of the fall ?
cheers, Stu

Thanks for the possitive comments Stu. I'm looking forward to doing the headstock. I purposely designed it so the keyhole will be easy to center and drill after the shape is cut out. I was initially going to abandon the keyhole because I couldn't figure out exactly how I would do it on the router properly, then I realised it'd be a lot easier to drill with a 20mm dia. bit.
That photoshoped rendition I posted above is actually made up of timber from one of Ethereal's earlier blackwood builds.
As for the name, well, I havn't thought that far ahead yet. Maybe I'll use Opeth theme and call it the 'Deliverance' model.
I was a bit rushed for time when I posted yesturday. I forgot to answer Ethereals question on the fretboard. Answer is, I will try and keep it Aussie. I have LOADS of jarrah decking offcuts that I might try and find a nice piece from. A lot of it is pretty crumby quality really, but there should be a few bits that will come up nice after I put them through the thicknesser. If I don't find anything I like there, I'll consider other options, but I definately want to try and keep it Australian.
I'm still not sure if I should bind it or bevel it though. I'm a BIG fan of nice binding, and at the moment I'm leaning towards that. Perhapse QM for binding (or maybe QM/QW/QM. I have some Q.Walnut veneer that I could put in there, or some Tas Mertyl).
Cheers fella's
DJ!

i was drawing a few designs yesterday (had 24hours of travel from sydney to boston to visit my uncle, and a few more making my way up to canada soon to visit family). one of the designs that grabbed my attention was a mix between a flying v and a tele. sounds like the worst combination possible, but i think i may just do it sometime soon, as it didnt look half bad.

its basically a v with a tele horn (really its not a horn, but it doesnt have a horn, but in a different way to how a v doesnt) , also considered using a tele pickguard and having the lower horn, and then the v back. ill do some more drawings on the way bac in a little over a week. ill see if i have as many movies to watch as this time, because i didnt get around to doing much designing in the whole 24 hours. somehow i slept for 7 on the first flight, which is lucky.

Gee, thanks Ethereal. It was actually a pretty quick job. I was almost going to skip on posting the photoshoped image because I thought it looked a bit crap. If I wanted to, I could do way better. Have been using Photoshop for the better part of 8 years.
It is closest to the Mustain V than any of the other similar V's. The curve on the inner "V" is a bit different, and the angle of the V edges to the centerline is 20°. I like the idea of a 3x3 headstock rather than the 6IL. I also wanted to keep well away from the Gibson V headstock too (I don't like it).
black_labb, looking forward to seeing your drawings. I always enjoy seeing people guitar creations. Whether I like them or not, they are usually at least inspiring.

OK Folks, got a bit of work done on my Double Cutaway build.....sanding to 400 grit and a blonde shellac wipeover...now waiting for prep sanding and nitro .
This is a Blackwood and Tas Myrtle build with a Minnerichi headplate....the body is 54mm thick with 33mm of Blackwood and a thick 21mm Myrtle carvetop.....very deep aggressive carve on this one.......this stock was purchased as standard furniture grade myrtle and I am really pleased with the nice subtle figure that hopefully shows up in the pics.....this build will have Seymour Duncan SH2 Neck and SH6 bridge pups....Wilkinson floating trem and locking tuners all in chrome hardware....
The neck laminations ARE accurately proportioned....the pic is slightly askew
Cheers folks and keep up the building over the holidays.

Very nice, Jon.
The myrtle cap shows up the same in the pics as in the flesh, but doesn't capture the shimmery movement last time I saw it. Bloody nice q/sawn piece for sure.
Did you chamber this one? I can't remember which way you went with it.
I do remember it being well balanced and pretty light as well.
Look forward to having another sticky on Friday.
What's the go with the back plates? Blackwoood or other?
And Merry Xmas , squier.
cheers , Stu

Thanks RG and Stu and all the best for the festive season to you both
I reckon the nitro will increase the shimmer factor nicely....the shellac is kind of matt. The backplates are both Tas Myrtle from the same stock as the top....bit of a contrast to the Blackwood.
This build is not chambered and is reasonably weighty........just under 3kg without hardware.
I glued the neck onto the new Single Cut today also so pics over the next few days to come.......also laminated up a nice neck blank of Walnut Outers and US Maple Centre (that nice figured stock you organised from Stew Mac, Stu) with Black and White veneers separating the maple from the walnut........that is for the next metal series which will be a Sapele (mahogany type) body and Flamed Maple top......with a blood red stain, ebony fingerboard etcetcetc.....looking forward to getting stuck into that one
Cheers
