It's my pleasure to be here and see such nice work!

I'll be around. A lot! My girlfriend lives in the Hobart area, and as she says, I live there now; I just have to spend a lot of time in the 'States on business... But I'm working on that problem. I'll be over at least three times a year, four if possible. I've got a teaching gig with Tassie Adult Ed in April, and if that goes well, I'll do that two or three times a year. A guy in Sydney is working on me teaching there, too.

And I'm working with a Tassie bloke on setting up high yield resawing there for "value added" on some of the incredible timbers you have there that are just going to waste. I've developed a very efficient sawing system that gets fantastic yield, and we're looking to set this kind of thing as adjunct resaw mills at one or two fo the smaller sawmills in Tasmania. There's better use for Tasmanian timbers than toilet paper...and it makes economic sense as well. If this goes well, then I'm going to try to set up a program of "cut one tree, plant two" so I can die with a good conscience! And I don't mean mono-culture tree farms, either. In Costa Rica they realized that many of the fine timber trees need to grow with other species around them. Some are tall, some are understory trees, and many need shade as young trees or they need competition to grow well. I've got a lot to learn about forestry, but I'd like to leave this earth in better shape than it's in now while still enjoying the beauty and musical qualities of fine timbers.

Glad to hear you'll be around a fair bit, Rick.

I'd like to meet Pete and have a look at his guitars. He seems to getting rave reviews !!!!!! It's time for a few of you guys to give this one a working over.

great looking set up as well. the only thing i can think to criticise is the control placement, id prefer them to be in a triangular shape or an angle of some sort, but thats personal preference and also digging very deep for some constructive criticism. looks great and id imagine it would be a wonder to play. so hows it sound?

and rick, im really impressed that someone who started a company like alembic and designed/had something to do with so many high end guitars and basses is on this forum. good work there, i always have liked alembics.

To state the perfectly obvious: bloody nice build mate!

You're right, the chrome was the way to go, satin black knobs are nicely subtle enough to not take your eye from the beautiful timber.
    Sweet!

    Thanks, lads.
This was a fun build and glad you got something out of it too.
I've not had much time to play this yet, so I, or someone else will
broach that subject and it's playability in the not too distant future.

Here's a few pics as this thread slowly fades into the sunset.

Top building Stu! This looks super. I can't wait to give it a test on Friday night

Interesting that you ended up with Black AND Chrome hardware....don't think I've seen that before either.....makes for a completely unique build in many ways. Well done sir!

I'll continue the accolades (sp?)... very well done Stu. The guitar looks excepetional. Are you going to leave the black gotoh's on, or replace with chrome at some stage? Maybe even standard button machines? Not a fan of those 510's personally. They look like they belong on a bass.

Anyway, will look forward to hearing the reviews of this one, and voting on it in GOTM!

    Great work Stu, well done!!!

Beautiful!!!!! Apart from the overall goodness of the whole thing Stu, I'm paticularly impressed with the colour of the sunburst. Mmmm! Speaking as someone who has no talent for putting colour on at all, I know how tricky it can be

Thanks for the comments fellas. Much appreciated feedback from you all.

Ethereal is the first to try this one out on Friday night. We'll also look at the tonal characteristics at play with Qld. walnut.
Most likely followed by Deano and Ray , when things get teed up. Anyone else ?

Thanks for that also, Jack. You're acoustics are immaculate as they are,
and it would be a shame to run a burst over those fine builds of yours.
I'd love to see them in person one day.

here's a condensed slideshow for those that wish to avoid the whole 10 pages.

went through your slide show (very good look at the various stages of the sensational build by the way) and saw this photo

the think that has me stumped is how you got that hole between the 2 pickup cavities. i know there are plenty of ways to do it like that on this design (routing a channel on the wings or neck through stock, or a channel under the carve top ect) but you somehow drilled a hole between the 2 horizontally, or atleast close enough that it reaches the other one safely. there isnt alother hole near the front where you drilled through the bookmatched top before fitting.

how did you do that? im sure its a very simple answer considering you did this over some other simple ways, but im still stumped.
