Ta for the props, fellas.
Ethereal, probably SD's or some of Mick B's pickups if I get the chance.
Umm....the gentle burst turned into a giant one.

Simply stunning! Top job.....I imagine a massive amount of control would be required to refrain from coating the entire top! This is a really nice contrast to your Qld Maple build.........on face value, the nitro had previously made the Vic Ash top look very similar to the QLD Maple nitro finish. Will rubbing back, remove some burst from the middle, any control in that respect?
Great work, definitely a store worthy finish in my eyes.

Cheers, Ethereal.
The centre is burst free, so what you see in the centre is the natural top. I'm happy with the gradual bursting as opposed to a more abrupt deliniation.
I'll sit this one down for tonight and reassess tomorrow night.

What's to reassess? Its looks fantastic!
The wet sanding to blend doesn't work real well, I tried it with the black shading on the tele, ended up wet sanding, not liking it and respraying exactly how it was before sanding. Unless you feel like sanding it all right off and having another go it isn't worth buggering with it - and again - it looks amazing anyway!Never argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience - Dilbert

You're right, Archer. I'm happy with this one.
Can't please everybody, but that's how it goes.
Ethereal and Archer, thanks for the good reviews.
It's never easy to know what is worthy of keeping. The exhilaration of achieving on your first attempt at using colour in clear is great when it works out , then the doubts start creeping in. After that is the ' It's mine and I like it regardless' stage.
I'm keeping it as is..
I couldn't put it down , so I darkened the outer ever so slightly, then sprayed two heavy coats of clear over the top.
Then peeled back the tape to reveal the faux binding.
cheers, Stu

I have to agree completely with Archer. It looks fantastic as it is. Why fix what ain't broke, as they say.
Don't even put another ml of colour on it Stu, or we might have to round up a posse to come and confiscate it
Have you considered submitting to January GOTM over at the PG forum for this one? I would definately say it's a worthy contender. You'd have my vote!

Thanks Gents
I sent Deano a pic via mobile phone last night and he invited himself around for a look this arvo. (considering he's without a computer)
I was going to enter this on PG forum as a running build , similar to this one. I didn't because I'd be spending too much time documenting and not enough building.
And the fact that this forum is in our own backyard has a heap to do with it. It lends itself to being more than just an internet community but one where people get to know and help each other away from the computer screen. A real community builder, this one.
I entered my Qld maple build in the April or May GOTM 2007 and just got pipped at the post by 2 or 3 votes. A real close one !!!!
I may enter this as well, let's see how it looks when finished first..
cheers, Stu

I can see your sentiment for the local community aspect, but I still don't think that should stop you from entering it in GOTM.
The fact is, you have built an amazing looking guitar with your own ideas and twists. In my opinion, it has everything going for it as a winner. Aussie timbers, unique design, amazing craftsmanship and an awesome finish. Probably the nicest guitar I've seen on this forum yet. This guitar smacks of Aussie. You should enter it with pride mate!

I'll most likely enter it on GOTM like I did my other one, but as far as doing an 'in progress' thing , this is the place for me at the moment. I may do an abbreviated build thread on PG while I'm waiting for this one to fully cure.
Thanks again, Hammered.
Compliments galore.
Although it's great to hear such things,
I still reckon the acoustic builders have it over us electric guys.
I've seen some fantastic acoustics on this forum and I'm still in awe of what they're able to achieve. So many variables to consider.
Having said that, Where's Kiwigeo been lately?
The acoustic banter has really died down lately and it's a bit of a worry.
cheers, Stu

Nice...
I've been hanging out to see that guitar with a finish on it, and it hasn't let me down at all. Stunning. I really dig the sunburst with a more transparent dye. It's inspired me to get a spray gun. I don't know how you're gonna top this one, but I trust you will. Will wait with anticipation.

I agree with you on the acoustics Stu. There is an incredable amount of craftsmanship that goes into some of the acoustic builds here and elsewhere. When I made my comment it was in reference to electric guitars only.
Agree with you in regard to the 'in progress' thing also. I just think it would be great to see this one in the comp, even if you just post a few nice pics of the finished article with some details on the hardware, timber, pups etc.
Cheers, DJ!

I think we may have lost some of our acoustic builder's to bob connor's few forum. it started in late sept or oct or thereabouts. most of them are hanging out there now.
