Haha, I like the decal Stu. Nice play on words (I'm assuming). Bluestone = Blues Tone right?
The guitar is looking a million bucks. It looks better with every photo you post. Speaking of photo's, and posting, damn, put up a photobucket folder of this guitar, and fill it mate. We can't get enough of it!!!
Also, I think black hardware will look nice on this guitar. I don't like or dislike black. I generally have a preference towards chrome (it looks good on almost anything), I think black will work well on this one. You could still go for chrome though. Just don't use gold hardware (yuk).
Can not wait to see this guitar fitted and finished!

BluesTone it is, Hammered. Good pick up there.
Thanks for the encouragement. To be honest, my house is on the market to be sold and it's preserved like a doll's house. no mess dust or anything.
Apart from having the workshop full of all things that tend to clutter a house up , I've also got to vacate the house just after getting home most nights for the Realo's to bring potential buyers through. A slight drag.......
And I dare not make any mess or my wife will tear shreds off of me !!!!
Once it's sold within the next week or two, I'll finish her off.
(the guitar that is)
BTW. Alot of interested buyers augers well for a good sale price for me .
he he he
cheers, Stu

I can't remember Stu, are you building on the new block? I'm in the same position (though I suspect on a much less grand scale sale price wise, being in rural Tassie). We're headed for a van and about a year of big mortice and tenon work on 8" X 8" celery top pine timbers, then put it together like a giant jigsaw - no nails or screws.
I forget why.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of good framing chisels, we're in the market.

Too right 'bout the shredding
Open for inspections on Saturday and Sunday with private viewings all morn tomorrow and sunday. It's looking good so far.
There is a great colonial style house already on the block with bull-nose verandahs, billiards room, family room and lounge, 4 bedrooms and a dedicated workshop soon to be converted into the new guitar builder's paradise.
In time I'll shift a few walls and open up the kitchen a tad. All in good time.
I get paid to build houses by day, and in my own time, I'll be balancing it up between guitar building and the odd squirt on the 'ride-on'.
Deep South, I'd be very interested to see how things go with the house you're building. What a great ye olde worlde concept.
Expect to be well sick of mortice and tenons by the time you're halfway through it. Good onya Deep South, for going outside the usual.
I tend to use marples as they're cheap enough and they'll take a beating.
I don't take the romantic woodworking approach with my work chisels.
Make sure they're comfortable and use them as hard as needed. No boutique stuff for me, it's all function.
I keep multiples of each size as a fall back. (i.e when number one goes blunt, pick up number 2. Once that goes dull, sharpen them both up and save some time in the process.)
As long as you keep touching them up and keep them razor sharp, you'll glide through it all.
cheers, Stu

The new house sounds really nice Stu, and big too! How big is your block? Considering I grew up in the country (little place called Ruffy, in the Strathbogie Ranges), I like a nice patch of land to live on. Luckily we have a decent yard here in Moonee Ponds. I'd probably go crazy in summer if I didn't have somewhere to grow a few tomatoes.
What kind of houses do you build mate? I mean typically. Is it architect designed stuff, or a lot of BV's or what? My dad's a builder, but he pretty much only does unique architect designed stuff, and some weird materials too. He's built a lot of mudbrick houses (including the one I grew up in), as well as other weird things, including a circular house that was built with hay bails and rendered, and a steel framed house with corrigated iron (running horizontally like weatherboards rather than vertically like on a typical corrugated iron shed. It doesn't look that bad, and it's becoming pretty common now). I think a few of the houses he has built have won design awards of some sort.

We build a mix of new architect designed new houses and reno's/extensions. Moderns, victorians and everywhere between.
We don't do any new estate work, mainly inner city stuff around Kew and Hawthorn area. We are doing an ultra modern in St Kilda incorporating a bubble bathroom. Curved and rounded walls and translucent as well. Should be interesting. Your Dad's mix of different materials in houses sounds interesting too.
The property we bought is 1.2 acres. Not that large, but enough breathing space.
And as of last night, our other house is now officially sold. Back to some more guitar building !!!!!!!!!!!!!
cheers, Stu

Sounds great Stu. A lot more interesting than BV's and townhouses that's for sure. My old man does a lot of reno work in more recent times (he's getting old and winding down now). I'll scan some photo's of some of the houses if you like. Some interesting stuff for sure.
Congrats on the sale. Hope you got what you where hoping. I guess you will be busy this weekend then, organising the new premises to be the optimum guitar building environment.

I had an 'agreement with the missus that if the house went for a specified
'huge' amount of money, I'd get the OK for a twin-drum Drum Sander.
Well, some times it pays to dream for the unthinkable because just sometimes you end up getting it. YeeHaaaaaaa
It's great to be back in the saddle again.
Good progress tonight, not long now fellas.
cheers, Stu

Well, we have had initial and enthusiastic interest in our place from a nice young woman with a couple kids, so I hope things work out that she can afford it. Meantime we are waiting on a few prices for big bits of celery top. About 9 cubic metres is what the cuttiing list transposes to. I get nervous about high numbers.
Stu, you deserve a break, why don't you come over and stay on our block? Bring your chisels.

How long a break ?.................6 to 10 months per chance?
That's a bit like taking a busman's holiday, if you catch my drift .
O.K. fellow forumites, here's some progress.
I should be done after this weekend
Rubbed back with 2000 grit wet, then 2500 grit wet also.
Medium cut back then on to the swirl remover.
Cheers, Stu
