I'll stick it in GOTM I suppose. Maybe a condensed build thread too.
I'll weigh the guitar this weekend and get back to you, Alysum.

And this one will be done by Tuesday, using the long weekend for fitout and fine-tuning, with many pics to follow in the process.
Then it'll get passed around to a few forumites for their honest thoughts.

    cheers, Stu

Lemon fresh !!!! That'd be a great way to clean off the cutting compound .

Electrics are done. Same with all hardware, and I've roughed in the nut..
All I've left to do is fine tune the nut, set the action and we're there.

Things have changed in the hardware dept. to an extent.
All black hardware on this one seems too overbearing and doesn't give it what it needs appearance-wise, so I've made a few changes for the better. I'm hoping you'll like what I've come up with as it's definitely knocked my socks off !!
It's now looking better than I initially imagined it to be , for sure.

    cheers, Stu

seeing that makes me think chrome hardware would suit it nicely. would give it a nice contrast (according to my imagination anyway). love the look of it.

Here's a neck-through I made a few years ago... Oh, wait, it was a few decades ago! Let's see if I can upload this...

Aargh...it wants me to really dumb this picture down...

    Thumbs up

    Sweet build!
has that fully detailed and complete look that happens so little - IMHO -sweet and subtle lines, bold but understated, an entirely arresting eye-popper. Sounds like I should send it an engagement ring, or pop the cork and drink it!
Anyhow congrats, hope you can post an audio file later to let us hear it in action.

    Cheers!

I think this build will be right up your alley, Blacklabb.

Nice bass Rick. How many instruments do you think you've made over the years ?
Have you had many you've regretted handing over because you've made a real connection with that instrument ?

Thanks Mongrel. I'm looking at the guitar as I type and I'm really looking forward to the few final tweaks tomorrow. She's all assembled and looking damn inviting. Pity I suck at playing right-handers. If only I made it a lefty..........................

    cheers, Stu

deffinately is, looking forward to seeing it with the hardware.

love that bass too rick, very alembic looking (which i like). alot of work must have gone into the inlay (as well as the work that goes into the rest of it). after doing some simple block inlays i have a real respect for people who do irregular shapes like the ones there. im thinking of doing some more adventurous inlay on another build, but would only do it at the 12th fret to keep it simple looking, and keep the time spent on it down a bit.

It's Alembic-looking because it's an Alembic...I was the co-founder of the company and luthier-designer back in the early days.

I've been directly hands-on (with plenty of help) in the making of about 3,700 instruments now. 1,200 or so Alembics, and 2,500 Turner Model 1s, Renaissance acoustic-electrics, misc. other solid bodies, and acoustic ukes and guitars. I've had a hand in every one, whether in the milling of the wood, the spraying, or some other task. I've done most of the machine rough neck carving on them all, too.

There are a number of them...maybe 15 or so that I've regretted having to hand over to clients or that I wish I could have gotten back. As for the rest, well, I made them as tools for musicians, and that's what they are, so I'm fine with it.

I do now try to make myself at least one keeper a year. Last year it was a really nice koa/abalone trimmed uke and one of the mandolins from the course I teach. This year it will be an acoustic guitar. I do owe myself a few, too, from recent years when I didn't keep my promise to myself. I guess I'd better start calling myself and asking me where my guitars are!

Thanks for the in-depth insight. It's definitely a great honour to have you on this forum and hope to see you posting for a long time to come..

And here's this one brought to life.
