Queensland maple build
G'day guys.
I'm new to this forum, and to the world of lutherie. Recently I started my third build and its coming on great...This build is for my VCE Design & Technology subject, with only three weeks remaining. Here are a few pics.
Oh, before I start, Thanks to Oz tradie, a top bloke, who has really helped alot.
I started with this:
A Gidgee fretboard, Queensland maple body and neck.
http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/3...abfrettoo1.jpg
I used walnut to veneer the neck, and a figured blackwood veneer to cover the head stock. At first this neck was coming on great, until a faulty router bit at school broke and ripped it to shreds. Yes, a poor workman does blame his tools...
So I made a quick call to ALS and ordered a new one. This has put me a week behind with only three more weeks to go!.
Below is the neck pre being ripped to shreds.

A big jump forward, and this what im up to now.
The neck is finished, and he body is carved. All thats left to do is route neck pocket and pickup cavities.

Thats all for now...
Ill post a few more pics this week.
Thanks for looking.

Not to sure on the price.
But they are cheap, as for tone read here : http://www.guitargear.net.au/discussion/index.php?topic=6610.0
I might add, he makes the hottest, Tele pickups going around! In fact they are ridiculously good!.
Here are a few up dates!...
I routed the neck pocket out, it fits nice and snug..
also started a few more bits and pieces, post more picks soon!... .

Deano, sorry for stealing your thread
Mick made me these to my specs
Bridge: 14.5k with an A5 magnet
Neck: 7.4k with an A2 magent
They sound great, although I still have to play around with the wiring
I did the Jimmy Page schematics and have to iron out a couple of bugs
I supplied the covers and gold pole pieces
They cost me $230 for the pair
Whats also handy is that Mick lives about 1km down the road from me

Sorry to join the hijacking side, but while we're looking at a nice example of QLD Maple, how does it stack up against American/Canadian maple that'd you'd see in big name guitars, for strength and tone?

Stable, but sounds nothing like American Maple, as it isn't actually related. It sounds more like Mahogany.

As RG said, but lot brighter sounding.
I reckon it sits in the register between Mahogany and alder.
Whereas blackwood is truly closer to what you'll get with mahogany.
cheers, Stu
