I'm happy to mix and match to find the perfect pairing.

Mountain ti tree. That's all I'm saying.

Is there any way I could get you to elaborate on that ?

After all, I'm open to all ideas and suggestions.
This build is posted in real time, i.e as soon as something gets done, it's posted.
I leave most things open-ended to give me more scope to play with different ideas and tangents.
Obviously the mathematicals need sorting from the get-go, but everything else comes down to inspiration. That's what makes it fun.

I hear what you're saying Deano and believe me, I've got a few fretboards already bound up and waiting for homes. My thoughts of the Striped ebony was to offset the she-oak colouring with a very dark fretboard. I picked this one due to the fact
it reminds me so much of charcoal and burnt remnants. Following themes and all.

Deepsouth, Have you any more info you could pass on regarding mountain ti-tree?

    Cheers, Stu

Easy. I got given a bit of timber when I was hunting round for fingerboard material. Mountain ti tree- it's scrubby apparently on the mainland (I'm new to the tree too, so this is all heresay) but apparently gets to a decent size down here (Tassie). I put it up on here:

    https://www.woodworkforums.com/showth...t=52907&page=2

most certainly it isn't dark, but it is striking, and man you should see it in real life! It is true that it is real hard to cut, and here's where I say newbie wrong things about timber: something about the conditions it grows in mean it has a lot of silicates(?) in it ...... I don't know, but I know that everyone round here who knows the timber says they can't slice it for me. If I can get it done, if I can find a band saw good enough, I'll send a slice big enough for a fretboard up to you or Ray - whoever has the most beer. (people think I'm joking when I say stuff like that) I might be on to a good enough saw soon, just need to do some more small town ingratiating stuff... takes time.

Yep, silicates kill sharp cutting blades big time.
Figured Blackwood and especially Qld walnut do that .
Beer is a currency worldwide, Deep South. It gets things done.
Thanks for the link to your build

I get a heap of my unusual native stuff from Tim Spittle at http://www.australiantonewoods.com/
    He's a great source.
I've got 6 flame myrtle carvetops on the way too.

    cheers, Stu

Yep, see both sides to these opinions. I like Gidgee but it's not REALLY dark like the streaky ebony is. I also respect the oz timbers theme. How about a piece of that BLACKBEAN I gave you Stu? That's probaby as dark as Gidgee though.

I used black dyed african ebony on my sheaok build......I do like the black and red colour combination as follows:

That's actually sheoak dots and binding also......

Any plans for a head plate?

Hey Ethereal. You pulled that one out of your archives.
Still a great build, that one .

The black bean is still too brown for this one.
Although I'm tossing up whether to throw caution to the wind and go Figured wandoo .
She-oak headplate with purf and binding in a different configuration.

Neck timbers are Blackwood with a hint of fiddleback and some lightly flame Qld walnut centre.

    cheers, Stu

Hi Deano. The dots were cut with a PLUG CUTTER.....you can get em at bunnies in different sizes. I got a 6mm one and cut dots out of thin scrap timber perfect for dot inlays.......

Yeah Stu.....out of the archives these shots! It's amazing how many pics have accumulated.....lucky I went a 250gb HD the other week

This is about the best I have. Sorry to hijack your thread Stu

I like your combination of neck timbers and the sheoak headplate will match a treat!

Hey Ethereal..........You'll have Deano looking for plug cutters during his work hours now.
He just so happens to also work at Bunno's in the tool section, right near the plug cutters. You know I'm right, Deano
