I cut the angle out of the heel, using trigenometry I work out the amount that needs to be taken off the back of the heel. I roughly cut it out, and then used a belt sander to make it all square.
Black_lab: How do you cut the angle out of a template?Deano

Ok, do you angle the top so that the fretboard appears flush with the body?
Heres what some people do:
But then i noticed Perry Ormsby planes the neck angle into the top before routing the neck pocket, so the first neck pickup is angled.

Speaking of carved top electric guitars - when you look at a real Les Paul, there are two angles.
First (and steepest) is the pitch under the fingerboard extension. It starts from the nominal binding top edge and runs out exactly at the fingerboard end. Then the angle flattens out appreciably, leaving a greater height between underside of strings and guitar top. It's why the back pickup's plastic surround is noticeably taller on a Les Paul - compared to many PRS style carved top guitars (as evidenced in the previous posts's picture).
You can apply this to most guitar designs, and fake the transitions where they don't quite blend with horns or cutaways.
Note well: The pickups need to be routed in at the prescribed angle - while it's easier to rout them into a flat blank the "cant" applied by then conforming to the neck pitch will call for an excessively sized pickup rout. This is fun in guitars with a through neck, or where the tenon's already glued in.
Cheers, Adam.

I angle for flush bodied fretboard. It's worth the extra effort.
And I angle the body mortice not the neck tenon.

Here you go.
If you look at the relation of the fingerboard angle to the upper horn, you'll see the difference in how much angle was taken out of the neck mount area of the top. ( Does that make sense ?!???)

Here is the other option.
This is a pick of my Belman DC. I personally think it doesn't look that bad.
I have some pics of their old workshop I took when I was gettin' this one made.
Ill try find them, and make a new topic.
Hope this helps.

Not really, your best bet is stewmac, they are cheap and look better than most stuff local shops can get in.Deano
