Southern music IMHO are more friendly, able to help, and good at finding that thing they might have under the counter or out the back somewhere. I have found however that if they don't have it, you'll wait a while. If your looking for alot of gear and your not after super dooper name brand gear they stock a DR PARTS catalogue, have a look if your interested.
Fretco are not bad as far as they normally have what i need ( trus rods are cheap 15-20$$), however I always feel like they charge too much for everything else and they don't seem at all helpful- If i dont quite know what i need.
Another place I went to for a peice of bone and a pearl offcut was a place called The Luthiers Lot, the bloke used to work out of John Reynolds on waymouth street but has recently moved, I don't know the address but it's just around the corner from John Reynolds ( now it's Billy hydes) He's a bit eccentric but not a bad bloke, just weirdish in a kind of muso way.If you dont play it, it's not an instrument!

I'm using my time off to get through some building as i might be heading to the defense force (whoa turn for a different profession or what?) as what ever i can grab (carpenter, cough) which means 80 days in a ???? hole, then moving interstate
Anyway, hope to have the the majority of the neck done on the weekend.
Cheers

that truss rod looks tiny, maybe because ive made mine to span the whole fretboard + a bit extra to have heel adjustments. they work though.

Last time i made one it was roughly the same length as you described yours, this time i decided to try a Gotoh 2-way, the seem like a good alternative to stew mac's 2-way.
What method do you use to make your truss rod's?

Here's how bad my Friday night was -
It's Dark, I'm Gluing the fretboard to the neck in the shed.
Then the ????ing power went out! (If you live in Woodcroft, SA you would know all about it)
Anyway, that has taught me to work in the day, really kinda annoyed as you would be. Been a while since i could get some work done too
Oh well, i can salvage some of the stuff so i will order a new neck blank from ALS and a new fretboard too.
Cheers,
RG.

Are you thinking it's cactus because the glue job didn't go to plan?
If it's Titebond, just iron and steam it apart. Use plenty of water to avoid curling the fretboard up - it may well cup a little longways, but this can be scraped flat. When re-gluing use a ¼" slip of cornflake box cardboard down each side of the fretboard top. This will make up for the cupping you scraped out, and ensure full clamping pressure at the edges.
Cheers, Adam.

picked up that amp this evening, the issue was only a blown fuse (was inside the chasis, so we didnt realise there was a second fuse).
the amp sounds great. very warm and powerful sounding (a 200w tube amp, of course its warm and powerful). i havent experemented with it much as i need to clean the pots, as they are all scratchy and can sometimes completely cut the signal off.
the speakers were plessey 50 watt speakers. think they may be alnico.
very nice amp. one of the channels gets dirty, so i dont think ill have to get one of those dreaded distortion pedals to use the amp.
ill have a good mess around with it once the pots are clean.

Starting to gather materials to build jigs, Go-bar press, Radius Dish etc...
Thought it was about time i got into some acoustic-ness.
Also laying out some designs for future electric builds, possibly a semi-hollow Vic Ash Telecaster in there too, we will see what the future holds.
Also building myself some clamps designed for guitar building, made some prototypes and they work bloody well so far surprisingly.
So really i guess all i am doing at the moment is decking out my workshop with jigs, clamps, and templates, but it's all enjoyable
Edit: Also working on a couple of benches made for guitar building, and racks for timber.Last edited by RGM; 12th November 2007 at 10:21 AM. Reason: Because i can..
