    Default Removing ferrules

    Hi.

I was about to do a stringup on a string through W.I.P. and I realised I don't know how to safely & efficiently remove the ferrules afterwards.

What's the best way to remove ferrules?

    TIA,
    Rob.

That is a damn good question, if it's the rear ferrules you may be able to get them out with a fishing hook (bent a little of course..) also that would only work if there you can find a gap in between the wood and the ferrule (i mean fishing it out from the inside of the rear ferrule just in case you were wondering)

Then if you had front ferrules, knock them out after removing the rear ferrules.

bset not to punch em right in for a test stringup
just tap em in a tad
the string tension shouldnt pull em right in
then just pluck em out after
    ray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

I would have thought needle nosed pliers with a hook in them (I think they are for working with split pins) would be the tool to use. But the other options RGM and Picker mentioned would work on less $$.

How did you get them out?
    Just read the post.
I once made a hook out of a nail which was flattened and bent to fit in. I case hardened the end. Then I put it in and jammed a toothpick beside it to wedge it in and pulled it out that way. it was an old jap tele copy and I had to put quite a bit of pressure on it to pull it out. Used a pair of vice grips to hold the nail
I often though about making a tool that had a padded caul and a threaded hook so you could pull them out with constant pressure, but that said I built the above tool in 1990 at school and have since never needed to pull one out.
    Go figure !!
