Rosette Setting Methods?
Greets from the Apple Isle:
We have historically gone the traditional route for installing rosettes on our acoustics:
Trace
Score inside traced lines with an Exacto blade
Chisel
Inlay
Use a cabinet scraper to clean things up
Sand
We are thinking of buying one of StewMac's dremel rigs to shorten and clean up the process. Any other suggestions?
Ponting out on 38... sigh

The Aussies are being totally outplayed at the moment, Hussey for a characteristic duck... grunt....
Check out Derek Cohen's OWT in the handmade tools section, add a shaft and pin to the centre of the soundhole, Bob's your uncle!

I bought the Stewmac rig but I only used it once. The jig flexes too much for my liking and sometimes if youre not careful the depth screws can work loose mid cut. I now use a Trend T 5 router, a spiral down cut bit from Stewmac and a circle cutting jig to cut rosette channels on my acoustics.
Tips and comments:
1. always start cut in the upper bout area which will get covered by fretboard. Once youre happy with depth and location of cut proceed with the cut.
2. Watch cut direction to minimse tear out. A coat of shellac around cut area before cutting also helps cut down on fuzz.

What type of glue is recommended for gluing in the rosette?

I use Titebond I as I like my rosette to swell a bit and fill up any gaps. Its important to work quickly though so the rosette doesnt swell to the point where it doesnt fit channel.
If you dont want swelling then use epoxy but be aware that clean up once the glue has set is harder than with water based glue.Whatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)
