Default How to rout for a truss rod?

hey guys, I'm trying to compile a 'how to' for each part of the guitar for when I make my guitar (Which I will scan my designs of soon, nearly done!) and the one part that really eludes me is how to do a truss channel properly... Project guitar is honestly next to useless, and Ultimate Guitar forum guys get shirty if you ask them anything like that... Always with the 'search it, gtfo', then I search, whaddaya know, 3 hours later NOTHING. Anyway...
    any pointers?

When I did mine, I did it before cutting the neck profile, so the neck wood was all just squared, parallel laminates. From there its simply a matter of setting the router parallel fence so that the bit is going to route along the centre of the wood and then going for it. You can buy trussrod sized bits from places like stewmac.com or you can just do some measuring and route to size. Or if you route slightly too wide you can fill up the gap with some thin wood to ensure a snug fit - you dont want it sliding around. Also make sure that depth wise, it fits nice and flush. You don't want it sticking out at all or else you won't be able to glue the fingerboard on properly!
    Hope that helps
    Will

    imo
searching is always a good thing...
if you want to do it, do it properly,
and doing it properly involves research.

both these threads of mine show me routing truss rod chanels simply,
i make the damn threads to educate and show anyone can do it, hell even floody can do it lol

    Thanks guys.
I mean I do search, going through the 30 odd pages of results takes me a few hours, and I don't end up finding it anyway.

Yea it can get a bit boring. Especially wit tools like Andrew_B who fill up threads with meaningless dribble..

Just follow the pic in his 7 string build that he linked too. A parallel fence on ur router. Just make sure that one edge is square

looks whos filling a thread with dribble now floody!!!!

and hey! whos sent you all your templates???? unappreciative git lol

you can do it without a straight edge on the neck... just clamp a straight bit of wood to the table along side the neck and set your router accordingly, but it is easier to have the straight edge there to run against...

most routers come with a fence

    good!

back to the truss rod question...
if you cant find a router bit the same diametre as the width of your truss rod, get one slighty smaller and do it in a few passes

Okay, gave up on CAD, hand drawn accurate 1:5 scale complete.
    Wow, she's huge.
Body wood will need to be 550mm wide, 800mm long and 13mm thick, neck timber will be 100mm wide, 800mm long and 80mm thick... Pricey methinks
