I took some photos of the jigs I built for making my dovetailed neck joint and put them in my photo album. There are several and I couldn`t remember how I got that one picture posted in the thread, so just click all albums and you`ll find them. The fixture for the neck wood serves 2 functions, I set it on the outbed of my jointer and take a light pass to make sure the angle will be a perfect match to the fixture, then attach the dovetail template to it for routing the dovetail. I use 2 routers for the dovetailing, the first uses a straight bit in a plunge router to remove the waste, then switch to the router with the dovetail bit for the final pass. I found that the proper fit is when I can push the joint together, till it bottoms out, by hand. Once the glue is applied it has to be hammered in for that last little bit, I merely clamp the peghead to my bench for that. After it`s all the way in I take the scrap I cut from the neck wood, clamp it together and leave it overnight. If you have any questions I`ll be happy to try and answer them. Mike

Thanks Wayne for the compliment, I spent a lot of time developing that joint, getting the size right and all. It`s really strong and in the future I`ve got a plan to make it even stronger but will need a machine shop to make a part I need. I plan to have templates made of aluminum for durability as this is the only way I`ll make my necks. I`ll get some more pictures in my album latter, and Fletch feel free to use the contrasting woods, I put all this out there in the hope others might benefit from my methods. Mike
