Spamming by tonewood suppliers
Members of an Aussie based luthiery forum I belong to have been receiving unsolicited emails (=spam) from an Indian tonewood supplier advertising his wares. If any of you receive such an email then PM me before doing any business with these characters.

This has been happening for years. We get about four a week from wood suppliers, and the same from asian parts distributors.

Spamming by tonewood suppliers
Same here I receive e-mails every week, in fact some times phone calls from India.
Golden fast rule of mine hit the delete button.
And what ever you do, do not open attachments unless you know the sender.
Cheers, Bob

Ask a stupid question you get a stupid answer.
What does it matter what Martin says, I find him one of the most helpful blokes in this section of the forum.there is others also that are a great help, so what is the problem.
You get out of bed the wrong side.

Brickie,
Martin mods on another forum concerned with lutherie and is building a database of offending spammers. He is gathering information. It will be useful to all luthiers.
With those calls Bob, just ask them what they are wearing and tell them that you are wearing leather underwear because it helps you sweat, gets rid of them real quick......"We must never become callous. Thanks for clearing that up Sebastiaan56.
There are already extensive spammer lists on the internet.

Well if you're thinking of dealing with one of these companies then I will pass on to you my experiences with some of them as a moderator on another forum. I could put up a detailed post on what some of these companies get up to but that would not be respecting the terms of use for this forum. Cheers Martin

I dont think you are clear on all this.
These individuals aren't on spam blacklists......spam blacklists generally work by identifying IP blocks that are a source of spam. They dont work where an individual is manually trawling forums for email addresses and then sending out low numbers of spam emails via a hotmail or yahoo email account.Whatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)

I'm not saying that spamming by these characters is new. Youre a proffesional luthier who has more knowledge of such matters than a newbie or amateur luthier. My post wasn't aimed at you...it was aimed at anyone new to the game or who has never dealt with overseas tonewood suppliers.
