Another first build
Hey all,
I have been reading through a lot of these threads over the last 6 months or so...very inspiring. So much so that it has inspired me to pick up to tools again (Have not done much woodworking since high school).
Anyways here are a few pick of my first build. Its a tele built from salvaged (Hard rubbish) Oregon and a strip of Jarrah through the middle. Neck is Queensland maple with a ebony fret board.

I have had to to a little carving on the back to remove some weather damage from the Oregon.
Hope you like
Cheers

Hi Rowan
I would have enjoyed sanding that Oregon it's one of my favorite smells. Any ideas on hardware and pickups yet. Be careful you don't spend the rest of your life in the shed.

Nice one Rowan, how many pieces of oregon?
I think it was Old Picker mentioned oregon was great for tele's in another thread.
I've got a pile of the stuff from when I knocked down the back of my house. So far it has become a LP jnr body, 4 pieces laminated.

Thanks for the comments all.
I did have doubts about the Oregon at first, then thought it was a first build so if it didnt turn out then no big deal....free timber is good timber.
Its made from two different pieces if Oregon....came from the barge boards of my inlaws next door neighbor.
I am leaning towards silver/chrome hardware...gold might be OK but am not much of a fan. Probaly go for the traditional silver neck and black bridge pickups.
I am also thinking of a custom pick guard...something minimulistic to highlight the jarrah. Maybe a light cream/white/off white/beigh/ivory/bone.
I am going to leave the body natural....mabe bring out the yellow in the oregon a bit. Whatever the finish I will try to make it quite thick as the oregon is quite soft...have had a few little dent already that I will have to sand out.
Cheers

More pics
OK guys...I have made a little progress in the last few weeks.
Here are some pics of the neck and a dry fitup. Sounds ok except for some frett buzzing!

Maple and rosewood...the virtical strip on the head stock in a strip of jarrah (read mishap with the bandsaw).
Will start on the final sanding and finishing next week. The frets also need some working.

i loved the fact that you picked the wood for this body off the hard rubbish
now thats what i call sustainable harvesting
the idea of the hardwood centre is also very smart as the oregon is a little soft to screw the neck into
well done & looking coolray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

That will be something special when finished Rowan.
Andrew, I wouldn't worry about the dins. Adds a bit of character.

Yer...getting the timber for free makes it a little easier to cope with mistakes.
Should hopefully turn out OK for a first effort. Looking forward to getting some finish on it.
