You may tell the truth, but do not exxagerate etc.
You could post pics and ask forum members if the wood is good or bad value.

if you are telling the truth then i cant see them having any way to successfully sue you. but then again im no lawyer, and there have been many cases where someone was sued for things they didnt deserve.
in defence of their actions, they may not believe they sent out such a bad piece and believe that you tried to thickness it yourself or something else and ruined it (they wouldnt know your skill level), and then wanted another piece. even if this is the case, they should atleast have some idea of what is coming out of there, and to let something like that slip by.

Its $65.00.
Build a bridge, get over it, and don't buy from them again. If in the future someone asks about that business, you can honestly say you can't recommend them. Sounds like all the guitar builders already know who you mean, so going further will only add fuel to the fire.
Life is too short to worry about it. Use your overseas buyer from now on, obviously you are happy with them, show us some timber from them with glowing reports on service etc.Boring signature time again!

My understanding of the law is that it's only defamation if it ain't true.
I don't know who the seller is, but I'd like to know who to avoid. Please PM me the details.

While it isn't a huge amount of money, I think their response is poor. I had something very similar:
Asked for X woods from the company in X sizes, with the following: "This wood is going to be used for guitars, it's all going to be visible, so I can't have any cracks, splits, chunks missing, and the Ebony in particular needs to be as figured as possible - it's going to be a showpiece fretboard".
One piece had a huge split 6 inches down from one end. Go to Body Plan B.
Next has had 8 inches of a corner cut off on a taper. Go to Neck Plan B.
Third wasn't the length I asked for, thus useless for laminating into neckthrough.
The Ebony had next to no figure, so that'll need to be dyed.
Because of all the freight charges, I knew straight off it's not worth fighting, but I'm happy also to pass the name of the company on to people in PM. It's one thing to send some substandard wood - it's another thing to suggest 'not buying from us again' and threatening legal action if you speak up. People in those cases deserve all the free advertising they can handle.

Agreed, we let it lie. As already pointed out, the Australian tonewood supply market is a very small one and most builders in here can soon work out which supplier is being referred to.
Someone might want to start a thread where we all name the suppliers we do business with.Whatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)

Hey, I am not at all sure if this would work but would it be worth this net community getting together to purchase a bulk load of wood, say 100 tops or something and getting some purchasing power going. If 10 of us who are buying 10 tops each got together we could probably gain a considerable discount after postage that would make it worth it.
What do people think?

If that happened to me I'd take them apart piece by piece.
Firstly I'd post full & truthful details online and send them a link.
Then I'd make a formal complaint to ACCC about restrictive trade practises.
And I'd be onto consumer affairs etc
I'd also sue them, and seek unspecified damages for harassment because of their percieved attempted blackmail.
I might even separate that into 2 totally separate actions
Their threats may actually constitute blackmail which is a criminal offence, so if they lose they might even be off to jail.
I would attack from so many directions their head would spin.
Geee an I thought I was a real nice easygoin fella too!!!

I've been in a couple of group buys through the OLF. I got three sets of high grade EIR. It was sourced in India, then was shipped to Philidelphia, then my sets were sent on to Oz from there. It came out at about $US43 per set. Hell of a lot cheaper than any vendors around here, I wish I'd bought a lot more. We just need someone with the time to spend organising the deal. I'm way too busy to even think about it.
