supplier whinge
just opened up a pack containing a droptop bookmatched set of qld maple to be thouroughly dissapointed. I received it from a well known and I thought highly respected queensland supplier of guitar parts, tonewood etc.
the boards were described as 1/4" and in parts are as thin 4mil - there is tearout all over 1 side of one piece and no matter how i cut it, it will never make a decent bookmatched pair
unfortunately i never unpacked it when it arrived which was in april so i guess i cant go flying off the handle at them requesting a refund or exchange etc...why didt i open em up when they arrived?? well i was pretty busy and i thought they had a good reputation so i just put it away for later trusting it would right.
i paid $65 for the set and when I compare it to the superb sets of big leaf maple i am bringing in from canada at around US$55.00 a set landed i wonder why i bothered with these guys and i for sure wont be buying from them again
not sure whether i should put the name of the outfit up here so Just be carefull who you buyin off specially from qld if you are thinking of it PM me for who not to buy offray c
dunno what's more fun, buyin' the tools or usin' em'

Ray,
I'm with Echidna...tell the supplier youre not happy with the wood. If the specs said 1/4" thick wood the thats what you should have received. The tearout is not acceptable either....it suggests the stuff has been through a planer. All the tonewood I receive from various suppliers gets sanded down to received thickness.
Hope you get a resolution to your problem.
Cheers MartinWhatever note you blow youre never more than a semitone away from the correct one....(Miles Davis)

Yeah bloke if i was a supplier and someone was giving me a bad rep id want to know about it.
Give them a call- see what happens- If they are like most of us here they'd realise most people store their timbers for a while before starting a project- 4 months isn't really that bad as far as time delay is concerned. If you dont play it, it's not an instrument!

What a disappointment, Ray.
I'd get in touch with them as the other lads suggested.
Been there, done that........and I was happy with the outcome.
The company in question certainly didn't want a bad rep over one soured deal
and they rectified the situation promptly.
cheers, Stu

i also agree with the others saying to let them know. because its been a while tell them the story and tell them its not a call for a refund, just feedback from an unhappy customer. what likely happened is someone got mixed up with a scrap piece. they were probably wondering why the piece they thought they sold was still there. its worth a try.

I agree with what you guys said ... As woods seller, I always happy to receive feedback from my clients. There's always ways to solve problems and communication is the first step.
Anyway you never know, you might get a refund or having a new stuff send to you.
Hope your problem ends well
cheers

get mine from either vedder mountain in canada or scott and brandy porosky in usa
they have mostly big leaf and both are straight shooters with high level product
vedder tends to have the really spectacular stuff for speciasl while porosky has high quality machined boards with what I call gentle to medium figure - perfect for necks or split into tops
check em out on epayray c

I took the advice of the majority and contacted the dealer the response was pretty hostile to say the least.
i was invited to "not buy again" and got threatened with legal action if i told tales....
pics of the boards will appear here a bit later so you can see what they sold me and you can make your own judgement......
be carefull and hopefully you will avoid making the same mistake as i did
i trusted this dealer because of thumbs up they got from posters in this forum
a business lives and dies on its reputation wether it be guitars, cars or real estate
australian guitar business is a pretty small town and word gets around fast these daysray c

Well that sucks. Buying expensive timber by phone or internet or whatever involves a big chunk of trust - maybe that's what was torn out of the board. It's a weird way for someone to behave in what is, as you say, a small marketplace.

sad part is he is getting recomndations as trustworthy in another thread going here right now.
I'd like to know what sort of legal ramifications there would be if the dealers name was appeared in this thread?ray c

nothing,
defamation comes to mind, however
'In law, defamation is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may harm the reputation of an individual, business, product, group, government or nation. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against criticism.'
therefore, i believe you are exempt, as your claim is genuine

The legal ramifications would apply as in any other print media or public place. As is stated in the rules, these forums cannot and will not protect members from what they say in the forums. That is a member's responsibility.
If you think someone may try to sue you - don't say it.
If you are sure of your facts but have no solid proof - don't say it.
If the moderators think a post is maligning a business without sufficient evidence they may remove the post.
