I must say that if this becomes a regular event then I would be really interested in making the trip (900km round trip) Probably make it into a guitar "weekend" with some wood shopping and guitar window shopping (idea pilfering) My 13 1/2 (I'm not 13 Dad, I'm 13 1/2) year old daughter is going to make her first guitar soon an- LP something-or-another and I'd say she'd come too.
Props to everyone for an excellent idea!!
    Cheers!

anythig anyone wants to do specifically? im happy to show anyone interested a bit about pickup winding, and maybe a run through on how to get some different sounds from their current pickups through wiring in switches.

i wouldnt mind someone showing me how they level a fretboard. my crowning and polishing ended up well, but there are still a few buzzes along the fingerboard. i have a feeling its mostly the fact that i used a fairly short oil stone to do it though, so maybe just someone who has made a tool for leveling could just show me what they do it with.
15Mar is the Blue Mountains Folk Festival, gotta be there! Im in for a bit of show and tell. I want to hear Mathew's bass for starters,

Do you mean levelling the fretboard or the frets, I assume frets. Yeah, the oil stone is way to short. Special tools aren't needed, anything straight and long will do. I've seen one person use a plane body. But make sure your neck is as straight as possible.

In saying this, it also depends on how low the action is set. I set the action on my basses low, so I always get some buzz even though my frets are level, but playing with a lighter touch is the way to go with lower action.

i was just about to say we should have a meet in 2 weeks tomorrow, but i just realised that that is easter and many people would have other commitments. week after may work, or the one after that. what do you guys think?

If you don't have a jointer, I don't, find a stable piece of wood when you're at the timber yard next and ask them to joint it for you. Again, anything long, straight and stable will do, it doesn't have to be wood.

If my bass will be there, it'll be a real surprise for me too! I hadn't planned on going ...

I will be at the National folk festival though, but without the bass. One day I'll have to book some stand space next to Jack. But I only have one bass so far.

    weekend after Easter looks good.

Hey Alastair do you still want that bending pipe? You can have my mounting clamp as well (wot I used to clamp the pipe in the vice).

    Thanks Matt,

Yes please, I have just received my copy of Cumpiano's book, and finished my hall table project, and am about to embark on some skills development in the area of acoustic building, so the timing is perfect.

If you aren't going to make this meet, should I arrange to collect from you one lunchtime? I still have your mobile no.

    regards
    Alastair
