Question Have you used these timbers???

    G'day everyone,

I am getting ready to spend all of my tax dollars... on wood!

Has anyone used Lace or flame Sheoak, Native Olive, Myrtle or Wandoo for back and sides? If so, how in your opinion does it match up to Blackwood tonally?

    Hi Austen,

I personally reckon that the back/side timber is a minor contributor to tone compared to shape, depth, soundboard timber, bracing and strings. I reckon you would be flat out telling the difference between those variables and the back / sides if the rest of these variables were exactly the same.

Ive used Tiger Myrtle and loved it. If the wallet stretched that far Id buy up big time.I know Bob Conner used the Native Olive with great success and I have some awaiting the gentle ministrations of my razor sharp tools (evil lustful laugh). Ive used WA Sheoak for other things but i believe Stu has made a fret board from it, and Ive heard no reports about Wandoo.

    Hope that helps,

    Sebastiaan

I played a guitar that Scott Wise made for Jamie Hook, that was wandoo and that really bright sounding....
