My daughter is flying to L.A. on Friday, so I have used the opportunity to order some Cigar Boxes from cigarboxdeals.com . Michelle has been tremendous with her prompt replies to my Email and forwarding them to my daughter's UPS Post Box in Santa Ana , Orange County where she stays overnight before flying on to New York.

I will hopefully have them about the 16th of December when I will see her next. After that, I will set out all the supplies I have put together for my Ukulele builds. It has been long winded but that has been part of the plan.

My build will start in the New Year and I will be like Mr Plod. One step at a time. Thanks everyone for all your help. This is going to be a slow process.

I think you are on the right track. Start with a simple cigar box build but the aim is still an instrument that plays. After that you will have some ideas for making the next one better and so on. Kind of an apprenticeship really.

I have gone back to re-read from the first page on. When I started I knew nothing, so some of my questions may seem odd, but bit by bit, the answers and advice you and others have given are starting to make a lot of sense.

Thank you, I really appreciate all the help you have given me.

Well, I have everything I need to build my first Ukulele. My daughter has bought back four Cigar Boxes for me. Three for Ukulele's and the other in the form of a chest because it looked cute.

They are still in Brisbane with her, I am on the Gold Coast. My wife is having a Girl's weekend with her and hopefully brings it home when she comes home. Otherwise I will not get them until Christmas day.

Pretty good timing ,as I had hoped to start my build in the New Year and it has all come together quite well. Some of the stuff I got from China turned out to be real crappy, but that was factored in because this is all new to me. At least now, I know what is needed and to avoid some of the rubbish. It is a learning cost that I had to absorb.

When I get the Cigar boxes I can lay everything out and do a semi dry fit and decide if it will be all systems go. Also just over a month before I go to Tasmania and hopefully I can get a leave pass from our family Wine Tour for a few hours in Launceston and then Hobart. Time now to start getting serious about some research for some wood. I was hoping the answer would just evolve from minimum research. But, that has not been the case.

At least now, I have a better idea of what I will be doing, so hopefully I can work something out.

Merry Christmas to all -------- Thanks for all the help.

Slow and steady will get you through, I look forward to seeing your progress. I have some more under way now, I put up a new thread for them.

Well, I have finally received my Cigar Boxes. And boy am I impressed. They are much better than what I expected and I must admit I had a few doubts after Cal mentioned in one of his threads that some Cigar Boxes are not very strong and others made out of compressed paper.

For a novice these were outstanding and Michelle could not have picked out better for me. I told her they were to make an Ukulele and I went with her suggestions.

Now, they complete the puzzle parts. All I have to do is the assembling. Fortunately, the Cigar Boxes are so good that I believe I am half way there and only just have to follow some instructions I have downloaded from the Web.

In the next few days I will lay out all the parts I have got plus the Boxes, take some photos, and let it all sink in. I hope to be starting in the New Year so everything is falling into place and my timing has been perfect. Only thing I need to be concerned about is if the items I got from China do not match up with the Cigar Boxes, if that is the case then I will have a rethink about that individual issue or issues.

But really, I believe I am at the ' All systems go ' stage.

Still at the all systems go stage. Got everything I need except a small dose of motivation. If I can overcome this dose of inertia I have acquired over the Christmas holidays maybe I can move forward and at least make a start on this project.

Doubt it will be before I go to Tasmania on the 1st of February for 9 days,

I have had a lot of issues that have diverted me from contributing to this thread. All is not lost as I have everything I need on hand.

Hopefully, I will be able to push on and start the build some time soon, It will be a Cigar Box Ukulele as I have four fantastic cigar boxes on hand now, and I think that will be a good start.
