The saga continues, these ukuleles are taking way too long to finish themselves!
Got the binding on the top side of the Camphor Laurel uke, I have to save closing the box due to the painful but great control bezels. Which means routing a part binding channel on the back past where the controllers sit before I install them, this is due to the bearing on the router would climb over the bezels and not cut the channel. It also means that I need to French polish the sides prior to installing the bezels and binding the back, talk about a backward way of doing things!
I decided to run some redgum through the bandsaw and thicknesser to see if it would be suitable for a bridge and fretboard, low and behold it come up a treat!
As this one is for one of my twins (the other twin has hers) I need to get this one finished by the end of the coming week, I’m heading off to get the kids tomorrow and will have them here for the week. I loose two days just travelling to pick the kids up and bring them back, so I will be back into it early Saturday. There is still a lot to do, fit the fretboard to the neck, set the neck to the body, dress the frets, drill machine head (tuners) holes and fit them, binding on the back, more shellac and French polishing, finish the bridge, set the bridge height up, glue the bridge, cut the saddle slot, make a saddle, make a nut and file it then fit it then string it up. wish me luck!!!

Just make sure that you keep a bit of pressure on that cherry as they will try to twist and warp.

So far so good Len.
Already 2mm thick and it’s all but dry, there was a lot of free moisture in the boards initially for sure but it has seemed to dry really well. I didn’t take them straight to 2mm by the way, it was done over a period of time.

Ok, another child happy! The second baritone ukulele is finished, I have a high fret that needs attention but the rest is done. Now on to mine!

The child who gets the uke on left will be at a handicap with strings missing etc ... but I guess you know that. Kidding Cal
Wonderful work ... and what I like most is that you do so much yourself, even from your own milled logs.
Hope you can let us hear the result.

More progress pics, the back is now on the body, binding is complete and fretboard is done ( I really dislike fretwork)
Fretboard now gluing to the neck prior to gluing to the body (photos are just dry fit, there is a bit of a gap!) The body still needs a bit of a shellacking
Tomorrow I will start making the bridge!
