Vertical 2 x 12" Cab
Hey guys,
I'm an in the process of designing a vertical 2 x 12" semi open backed guitar cabinet.
So far I'm going to go with dovetail jointed 3/4" radiata pine as its going to be tolexed so finish isn't an issue.
I'm am a bit confused as to what to use for the speaker baffle however.
I was thinking 1/2" exterior grade plywood.
Would this be ok? I know some guys have made some phenomenal looking cabs on here so I'm thinking this is the right place for some advice.
Thanks guys,
Catstrat

1/2" ply will work, but may be a bit flexible. people in north america use 1/2" baltic birch ply for lower wattage amps and when they want the baffle to vibrate effecting the sound. not sure what species the ply you are thinking of is, but it is probably not quite as stiff as baltic birch, so i'd go 5/8 or 3/4". in my 2x10 i used 19mm pine, and located it by glueing at the ends, so there is a long stretch that can vibrate. seems good, but i only use a 15w amp into it, and was looking for the sound of a floating baffle.

Thank mate
I definitely don't want the baffle vibrating so perhaps Ill go with some 3/4" A grade marine ply ie: no knots, imperfections etc.
