Hello new Bloke here
G'day, Neil here, I have been reading a lot in this forum for a few days and I think it is going to help me out a great deal. I am defenitely not a wood worker, I last did it in grade 7 primary school in about 1959. I am a Vietnam Veteran (3 Cav. Regt 1970) and have been pensioned off from work and need to occupy myself.
I am learning Blues Harp or Harmonica and have just made myself a valved amplifier and now I need a speaker box so I thought "Why not make one yourself, give you something to do" I took a wander round a few hardware shops and there are things in there I have never seen before and have no idea of how they would be used.
The Internet is a wonderful medium for learning new things as I learned when I made the amplifier and many people are willing to pass on advice so I am taking the plunge. I will start by going to the markets to buy some quality old tools, I might even go the Triton way 2nd hand at this stage and start looking at simple projects to get things rolling.
The easiest part for me is getting the timber, a mate of mine has a bush timber business here where I live and I have already got the timber for the speaker box, ( Queensland Kauri ). I am buying MDF first to practice on and intend to make the speaker box completely with the MDF before I attack the real timber. I am posting a couple of photos of a speaker box with the same amplifier fitted so if anyone can send me in the right direction to get started that would be great. I am still thinking about whether I will use the grill cloth on the front, if the timber looks good I will not but if the timber looks average I will use the cloth and maybe do the front with something a lot cheaper than the Kauri, regards to all Neil

Hello, Neil. And welcome to the forum! About a year and a half ago I wired up a little 5 watt amp that would be perfect for blues harp. I enclosed it and a ten inch speaker in a simple cube made from canarywood. Here's a shot of it before I put the back panel on. It's not too big, but the canarywood made it awful heavy.
When all is said and done, there is usually a whole lot more said than done.

Nice amp
G'day Cisco, nice looking amp, I am going to knock up a speaker box for mine, I have a 10" Weber speaker to fit in it but I am going to do it in MDF first to see how it turns out before I try it with the Qld. Kauri. Regards Neil
