    Default Holey Sunday

Must admit I’m not very religious – well … no lets not go there.

But today has been very “holey” – gaud I luv my drill press. This is the start of a “Mass Loaded – Tapered Quarter Wave Tube” project complements of Martin King.

I finally got a bit of time over Xmas to fix the tops and bases of my ML-TQWT’s. Not to everyone’s taste I suppose but they do perform rather well.

Make sure you clamp down the bit of wood when using the drill press, I took out a rather tidy chunk of my thumb when a 50mm forstner hooked on to a bit of MDF that I was holding on to. They look great though.

Yep, found forstner bits pretty useless for MDF work – so I invested in some Single Tooth Holesaws (http://www.tradetools.com.au/ProdVie...oduct=RD055007 ). Now they do the business a treat and for the small openings just spade bits.

What speed were you running the forstner bits at? They need to be run at slow speeds. I found them to work very well on MDF. Can be a little tricky if the piece is on the small side but then so is any hole maker that size.
