Default Question for the tech heads

    G'day geeks.
I want to play my iTunes songs stored on my notebook PC through my 30W Laney valve amp so I can jam along. Can anyone tell me what I need to do this.

    My setup is
    Line 6 Footpad with Left Output:Right Output: Direct Amp/AIR Mode:Master Volume:Phones: CD/MP3 input:Input (Guitar): foot volume/wah wah Pedal.
    Laney 30W valve Amp
    Gibson LP Studio plus.
I can't feed the notebook directly into the amp as I will only get mono playback and I want stereo and my guitar.
    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Cheers

Why will you only get mono output? Typically the output on a PC/Laptop is a 3.5mm stereo phono plug - plug in a phono to RCA flylead and you'll have your stereo RCA connections. 3.5mm Stereo Plug to 2 x RCA Plugs HQ - 3mt - Jaycar Electronics

You can also get plug-in USB 'soundcard' if your lappie is lacking in its output options.

So if i plug a 3.5 stereo plug into the line-out of my notebook and the other 3.5 stereo plug into the cd/mp3 socket on the foot pad i'll get sound into the guitar amp via one of the outputs of the foot pad...is that how it works. And can I buy a double ended stereo cable like that i.e. with 3.5mm males both ends? Just looked up the jaycar outfit. Answered my own question...yes to a double ended 3.5 stereo cable.
    Thanks

From your notebook your music player should have the option to make a mono signal from stereo.
VLC or Foobar both have the option and you can phase reverse also to match the guitar so the two inputs dont compete with each other . May be a usb guitar input and mix the guitar with the music first? Some 5.1 have the option to select the lo pass frequency for the centre bass channel if you select 20,000 hz then all will come from the centre channel a defult way of getting mono.

I use iTunes. No option to convert stereo to mono. In any event I can't feed the output into my guitar amp without a horrible humming noise accompanying the music. So I just plug my iPod into the mp3 input of my Floorpod and play guitar and music through my headphones. No probs and can jam without disturbing swmbo. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Hmm. The only place I can see to do that it is in the "import settings". That's not what I want. There's no facility to convert the output of songs in my library from stereo to mono. But it doesn't matter now as I can just jam into my headphones ok. Thanks for the hints.
