Well the internal renovation of the old part of the shed is basically complete.
This will be my wood working space

    Attachment 200174

    • Roof raised and leveled
    • Installed back door
    • Replaced original door with a window
    • Old uneven and sloping floor replaced with new 100 mm reinforced concrete floor
    • Ceiling Insulation
    • Rewired (this part of the shed has a separate single phase line back to the house, new part of shed has a 3 Phase)
    • Extra wall studs
    • Walls insulation, lined and painted
    • New shelves for Chainsaws and rack for garden tools, and
    • Last night I painted the floor.

One more coat on the floor today and then wait a couple of days for the paint to harden up a bit and I can start to move all the crap back in.

I keep saying to myself, "Be ruthless and chuck anything in doubt away" but somehow I doubt it will happen to the extent I would like.

The 3 spare wall spaces will be taken up by cupboards and a WW bench will go in the middle of the floor.
SWMBO gets the premium space in the form of a bench under the window for her lapidary stuff!

Then I will have to reclad the outside of the old part of the shed.

I started this project some 15 months ago, so far so good.

Thanks Christos, it's been a very satisfying project to get near the end of. Kindof like building a big cubby within a reasonable budget as well as being older and a bit more patient so that one allows enough time to plan to makes sure it all integrates. Only some of the features (like the whole DE system, retic compressed air with comp outside, metal work and wood work separation etc) have been planned from the outset, the rest and the details have been made up as I have gone along and depending on what materials I could scrounge etc.

The one weak link is my own manual skill/ability - this means things are not as straight/even/aligned etc as I would like - I guess I should be happy as long as everything works and does not fall down or break?

Waiting for the floor paint to harden in the old part of the shed so I thought I would work on my welding bench.

I decided to add a 5th leg to the bench directly under the vice. It's made of 50 x 25 x 2 SHS.

The top is two pieces of 6 mm plate and is just a temporary setup until I find something thicker.

Next on the todo list is a booth arrangement that wraps around the top of the bench and a fume hood arrangement overhead that vents through that hole in the wall above the bench. I'm going to use some old dexion shelving for the booth doors. One of the shelves is shown standing up on the table top.

I also added a closer up picture of the triple hinge arrangement that enables me to swing the vice under the bench.

    Default Chainsaw Shelves drip trays

Most of yesterday was spent moving all the crap remaining on the back patio and veranda back into the old part of the shed

I modified and donated my WW lathe bench to SWMBO for her lapidary work. I then went out to work to look for a bench that supposedly had been set aside for me for my lathe but it had gorn!!!!!

This means I will now have to make another bench! - no biggie, I can now make it exactly how I want it..

While I was at work I knocked up the drip trays for the chainsaw mesh shelves I made a couple of weeks back. Using the pneumatic guillotine and sheet metal bender meant I was able to cut and bend up 6, 400 x 600 x 15 mm high metal trays in about an hour.

Here's what they look like from front on.

They are hard to see because the trays are tucked up underneath the front fold of the mesh bench so they do not get in the way. There are two metal brackets welded direct onto the shelf brackets that hold them up at the back and a simple wire hook that holds them up at the front.

From Underneath they look like this

Sheet metal material is an ex-sign for (guess which product?) supplied by a local WWF member.

Notice how much more crowded in these shelves are compared to the previous photos.

Yeah I noticed that this is a lot more compacted. How did you managed that?

Lots of measuring and planning. I'm hoping for at least enough floor space to be able to layout a sideboard or coffee table (I couldn't do that in my old shed.

Finally the floor is finished and everything is back in the completely renovated old part of the old shed, and the new part and the old part now look of a similar standard.

This is a 360º panorama starting and finishing at the front door.
    Attachment 201294

    1. is the front door
    2. is the back door - the external DC is just outside the back door.
    3. Is where a new WW lathe bench has to go
    4. Is SWMBO lapidary workbench (my old lathe bench)

All those grinders get to go on pedestals or on top of another cupboard up in the metal work end end of the shed.

Getting close to the end now. I also need to do some maintenance on my 6 year old workbench. It's really suffered from being used as a chainsaw repair bench. New bench could be on the cards.

    Hi Bob,

Almost there. And what a fantastic effort given the wars you have been in this last year.

Having seen what work you could produce out of the old shed I can't wait to see what things you make in this new palace of a shed.

    Cheers

Cheers Pops, SWMBO is also saying a similar thing, she also can't wait to see the original picture frame she asked for when the WW craze really took over in 2006.

    Well Bob,

That picture frame had better be the first thing you build. Just think of all the brownie points you could score for that.

You have a great work space Bob, I am envious.

    Cheers

Just over 6 years ago I made this basic bench to replace a $29 cardboard core door on a couple of homemade saw horses.
    BobsBench1.jpg

Over the 6 years it was used for WW, to repair chainsaws, the odd bit of metal work and several times I even placed a piece of sheet metal on it and did some welding on it. In short, it had had a hard life.

Sometime in the near future I do hope to replace it but in the meantime it will have to do.
When I moved it from the back patio (where it has been resident for the last 4 months) back into the new shed last weekend firstly I washed it all over with turps..
This removed a scummy black residue ( mainly chainsaw oil) which gummed up any sandpaper I put near it, but after a hour with a scraper this evening, this is what it now looks like after a wipe of BLO..

    Bench.jpg

Still relatively distressed but much cleaner than before.
It should keep me going till I get the rest of the shed up to spec.

I like the blacken look for the bench. Can I request that you spill some motor oil on it?

    Nar just kidding.
