Hall Table WIP
I was so impressed with Vern Bunn's (Titi) hall table I just had to have a go. I asked Vern if he was happy for me to copy it as a matter of curtsy. I'm making it out of Qld Maple I purchased from Mapleman who was very helpful and had a good price for the timber. I plan to do some inlay work on the top with my new Makita plunge router/laminater I got from the UK recently.
Heres some pics of the timber and book matching the top.Power corrupts, absolute power means we can run a hell of alot of power tools

I see no pressure then.
Just remember I still have a day job and it might take a little time to really get things going, I only seem to get 1/2 a day per week in the shop these days and you SWMBO will have something that needs doing. That reminds me I've got some picture frames to finish and some nice boxes.

That's no excuse. We're all watching a shed being constructed out of massive timbers elsewhere on the forum, and at the current rate, it'll be done in a couple of weeks. Then there's WW and his creations, not to mention the speed that Claw pumps out things from Newcastle. We've just become accustomed to WIPs taking days, not weeks or months, so there's really not excuse.
Will be watching this one - that timber could be hiding something amazing.

Got some more progress the other day, the top cut to final finish and some shaping of the 4 legs to finished size on the bobbin sander. Then started the inlay for the top but not finished yet. The inlay timber will be sheoak, a scrap piece mapleman gave me when I purchased the Qld Maple off him. Apart from a boarder around the outer edge that you can see cut ready I plan to do a design like the one on the SBS news. The Makita router/trimmer I got from the UK worked really great and I'm glad I got it now with all the different bases and plunge capability it's the bees nees.

More progress today with the inlay all completed and looking good if I say so myself. I've just started to get the rails and cabnet boards ready for next weekend.

Sorry, but I can't understand the meaning of the pattern of the inlay. To me it distracts from the natural beauty of the book match.

Frank.
