You can post anything you like. It's within the forum rules.
However IMO all you're doing is showing you like trying to look helpful when you've no skin in the game. I'd consider you less hypocritical if you widely advertised things you found that you, personally, wanted and implicitly suggested to people that they make it more expensive to you by bidding against you.
An auction for a single item is a zero sum game. I'm happy to share information on commercial suppliers of items so people can get the best price, but when it comes to auctions, sorry, I say nothing regardless of whether I'm bidding or not.
All those things you list, anyone with half a brain already knows about, so all you're doing is assisting those too terminally stupid to do their own research. Including the Colchester Student lathe that sold yesterday afternoon for $400 which has to be one of the all-time bargains if it truly was a UNSW machine, as it wouldn't have been shagged.
On other forums it's considered very bad form to do what you do. No point in arguing this further as neither of us are going to change our minds.

Alfisti
I won't tell you that the Alfa dropped a timing belt and is now in getting a new V6 fitted... something to do with bent valves...
I'm across your way almost daily at the moment, I'll surprise you and drop in one of these days.
Regards
Ray
Blimey and I have 2 V6's sitting in the yard not knowing what to do.

You cannot post anything you like. Calling someone hypocritical for one could be seen as derogatory. If you would care to read the very first post in this thread it may clear things up. There are many many members who have posted all sorts of things on this thread, often to the benefit of other members. I'm not sure what problem you have with me but I find your overall tone rather negative. Not knowing you the vibe I get from your posts is that you are a grumpy old fart.

Not on my account
I have my fill of the heartache of Italian cars, from the GTV to a brief flirtation with a Ferrari Dino in 1982. What I really want is a leakproof carbon fibre Giulietta spider body on Lexus turbo'd running gear. With German fuel injection and electrics. And Brembo brakes. And Recaro seats. Hella lamps, P0 tyres, etc.
Oh wait...just gimme a 427 Cobra and an empty road. A psycho friend and I once made it from LA to Vegas in just under three hours in an original 427 Cobra. It took my eyes three days to close completely after that little escapade. As I recall I opted to walk the rest of the way to Canada. It's all part of the service here at The House of Pain™

Good grief Ray, you are a glutton for punishment! I sold my Alfa 9 months or so ago and I still celebrate the event weekly! Easily the worst car I've ever worked on in my life. I had all sorts of trouble talking to the computers, and the last straw was the airbag system failing. When I finally got to talk with the computer it was coming up as a fault (typically that's a false crash detection after a low voltage with a flat battery etc and they lock out), so pulled the computer and sent it to UK to be re-flashed only for it to come back as indicating the same fault. I parked the car down the road with a "For Sale" sign on it and a give away price (though it didn't stop some moron ringing up to offer even less), and sold it in a few hours. The neighbours appreciated the reduction in swearing from our property I'm sure. Bought a near new ex-government Outback at auction instead. Not as much fun as the Alfa, but sure as heck less headaches!
As a matter of interest, when you say it dropped a timing belt, did it actually break? Something that's unheard of on Alfas .... no, wait
Thanks for the heads-up on the thrust bearing ER32 collet closers Dave, I meant to buy one of those some time ago, but it completely slipped my mind until I saw that post. I've never used one of those myself, but I have used similarly equipped thrust bearing drawbars, and they make a huge difference. I believe it's something like 25% less torque/greater force depending on which way you want to look at it. Here's another link to a source, no idea of the quality. Aliexpress.com : Buy Ball bearing nut ER32 Ball bearing nut UM type for ER32 UM Collet chuck from Reliable Ball bearing suppliers on Ruihan-Tools

Edit: just as an aside and after thought. Many of us here use ER32 collets to hold end mills, however since posts remain essentially "forever", for the benefit of others it should be kept in mind a collet, any collet, is not strictly the correct tool for the job. It relies purely on friction to prevent the cutter being pulled down when side milling, and I've had a number slip down, even when done up tightly. The correct tool to hold an end mill is, unremarkably, an end mill holder. They positively lock the cutter and will prevent it slipping out. The pullout force when milling combined with the normal cutting vibration, will test any friction holding method.

You know you're in trouble when you tell your co-workers that you bought an Italian ( fill in relevant item - in my case older Ducati) and you get looks of horror from persons originating from that particular Mediteranean Country, followed by "You didn't buy anything made in Italy Rob - did you?"
After the yes statement, you get shake of the head and rolling of eyes by those concerned.
Yep, been there, done that. Still sane - just.
